Review: Coast LED Lenser Mini Tac Torch

Damn, that's nice packaging for a freebie light! I got mine in the clamshell packaging, not a gift box.

Dang! The packaging alone must cost about $3.50 or so.

Good review! Thanks for sharing

This is an AAA light. As the cell drops below a certain voltage threshold it switches to a moonlight mode, which is more or less constant for about 10-11 hours. Very similar to how the Fenix E01 works.

Nice review of a nice light! Sorry I think I missed this review and I never frontpage'd it. Now it is. :)

Pity these are only available at that price within the USA. Otherwise I'd pick one up too.

Should I splurge and see if I get the mini-tac for the 3.50? Hopefully they are still sending those

not ringy not purpley or ugly ,Some people say they have gotten really ugly beam and odd tints minitac , these have always been a crap shoot you lay your money down and you roll the dice ...sometimes they send you a great lil light .. other times a real piece of junk /keychain light . Makes life interesting ..

I did...We'll see what I get. I dunno, even their cheapest keychain light seems kinda ok. Not a deal, but ok:

Yay, got the Minitac! It feels quite good in the hand. Definitely won't blow away with the output or beam quality, but can't really complain, especially for the price. Probably a fantastic emergency light for the car.

Did you get the boxed one or the plastic packaging .?? I got the box like match ..makes it seem much nicer .. smart marketing

Got the boxed one, but it's not a pretty blue one. Just black with a crooked Coast LED Lights sticker. Can't complain though.

Got the box one, too. very nice indeed. Thanks jekostas for the tip.

I'm sorry to revive an old thread, but I had a quick question about this light. Does anyone know if a 10400 would fry it? I'm guessing it is direct drive, but that is just a guess. I think the 5MM Nichia GS is only rated to 3.4 v though.

The current that you're supposed to send through these are tiny compared to cree's, so no it probably won't work and you wouldn't want to do it even if it did.

I thought so. Thanks!

Just ordered, thanks!

They have been sending the tiny keychain version which uses the watch batteries instead of the mini tac ..it's a very cute little nichia light too..it looks exactly like a mini tac .. it's just 1/3rd the size and just as bright ..i like both ..let us know what they are sending out when you recieve your light .

Will do. Where is a good resource for battery replacements for these little lights. I am guessing the same size as the Streamlight Nano?

Nah, it's about twice the size of the Nano. I prefer the AAA battery light for run time.

I would prefer the AAA also. Beggars can't be choosers I guess. lol
