$5.00 Flea-Market Find

A little over a week ago I found an old 5-C Maglite. Older serial #, thick tube, and incredibly well built.

Overall it's in good shape and works fine. I only had a 6v Bulb (4-cell) to put in it, but it's sure bright. No large scratches, dings, or dents.

Once I got it home, I cleaned it up, lubed the threads and O-Rings (which were in good shape), polished the spring and metal faces for better connection, and good to go. I did put in a new reflector and lens. Both were in good/decent shape, but I wanted it to work like new. Besides, I had the new parts laying around anyway.

Here are a couple of pics - 1 on the ground and the 2nd is me holding it, for a better idea of the size. Actually it's the exact same length as my 4D...

Not sure what I'll end up doing with it, but it's still not bad for 5 bucks! Since I really like it, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. Heck, I might just keep the darn thing.

Nice find!! :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face:

Those Mag-Lites are tuff.

What a wonderful example of how far we have come. Remember when this was actually considered a decent light for the time? I loved my 2 C cell Maglite despite the fact it was too large to carry, wasn’t all that bright and used crappy C cells.

The 5 C cell Maglite was never popular and for good reason. Who the he’ll would want one? Now they are kind of cool in the way a Ford Pinto or Gremlin is cool.

Sweet find! I have a soft spot in my heart/head for mag C lights.

Nice score.

Nice light! I have ALWAYS liked the C cell Maglites, and wish I could find one of these. I actually remember several years back seeing a new 6C Mag at Fry’s and debating whether I should buy it. But I decided against it because I figured I had enough lights. If only I knew.

Well - too many lights and some have to go. I'm going for quality rather than quantity. While this Maglite is as reliable as they come, this is one that I'm not overly attached to.

I've just listed this 5-C Maglite on 'the bay'. I'm more of a 'user' than a 'collector', and will put the funds from this toward other models/parts/purchases.

OK I may or may not have placed a bid.

You should have done a WTS!

Hmmm... 50 dollars for a beaten up 5C maglite that would work well as a bat. Tempting. ;)

Nah, I just put that 'Buy It Now' in there for fun. Free listing anyway...

Someone's already bid a dollar on it, so it's there for the duration now.

I'll admit I was actually considering the buy it now, but I guess I'll try bidding on it.

The no shipping to Canada has prevented me bidding on this :frowning:

That is my bid!

Very nice!

Sorry, my friend. Since bidding has started, the Bay won't let me edit the shipping location for some reason. I'd definitely be willing to ship to Canada for you though, if you are able to bid on it.

I sold a friend of mine a 2D LED Maglite that I got on Black Friday. (Of course for no more then I paid, he is a friend after all  ). He was so thrilled with it, he GAVE me his old 2C Ican Mag. Said he had no use for it being that it was obsolete. I will mod it some how but boy is that form factor neat. C mags a kind of rare.

I wouldn't call a C mag rare since they still produce them. 5C or 6C maglites are rare. ;)

I think there was also a 7C…

They actually made them up to 12D when Maglite was a small start up company. They would make custom sizes, so you could request what ever size you wanted. However, they never mass produced anything above a 6 cell afaik.
