Registered shipping and frustrating trips to the Post Office

For a couple months I’ve been buying lights and parts from various china-based websites and ebay sellers. One larger website always sends their packages ‘registered’ and I have to be home to sign for the package or take time off from work to go pick it up while the post office is open. The postman won’t leave it at my door or let me sign a slip. This drives me insane as taking time off for work for a $10 light hurts (although I admit I can’t wait to get my hands on it :8) ).

Pretty much all the ebay sellers from china and several other websites/sellers don’t require the registered part. I come home, I have my package, I get to drool/tinker/play right away.

Is it just one website? I’m not out to bash them, just haven’t experienced it with others. it doesn’t seem to be an option either - they have done it for all 4 packages.

My doorbell quit working and even when I was home they would leave a slip. I finally figured it out, but that was frustrating.

This is why I have everything delivered to me at work. Not sure if that's an option for you. Receptionist keeps questioning me if it's ok for her to be signing for these packages from China (as if I'm smuggling drugs or something). What you described happened to me with my very first flashlight purchase from DX. I had to wait until Saturday when I could get to the post office.

It would not be appropriate to have it delivered to my work

Lots of places do this unfortunately; it protects the seller considerably to have a signed receipt. This is a good practice in overseas vendors, but it is a pain. |(

I came home for lunch earlier this year to find the postman pulling away after putting a slip on my door. I parked behind the postal truck, walked up and gave a hello, showed ID. He let me sign for the package and then put the truck into reverse, thinking I’d come out my front door, and….

….backed the mail truck into my car at full-speed!! H) :frowning: |(

Since then I’ve been OK with going to the Post Office.

Guess what I had when I got home? Another postal slip for a $15 DX order…

Shenzen wholesale mailed me two days ago.

They got their tracking showing deliver failed.
I’ve had that parcel with me for a while already but when I was getting it from post, their systems was down…

Maybe tracking updated wrong because of it?

Still kind of nice to know they keep an eye on their stuff already sent out…

One could always get a PO box at the Post Office or one of the mailing/shipping/copy places around.

No neighbor or so near you who could sign for packages?
I was never on a post offices and I get a package almost every day
