26650 custom host

I had this project in works for about last six months, but finally managed to finish it. It’s a single 26650 host, with warm white MC-E, 8*AMC7135 with additional chip soldered to get 3.2A output and a clicky in the tailcap. Reflector is Polymer 225 2.5deg with a fresnell lens in the middle. Partially turned on a 16x40 conventional lathe partially on 7x12.

Trits will need to be installed some time soon, but let’s just leave it at this for now

Nice work! What exactly do you mean by it having a fresnel lense in the middle? Are you using that to further collimate the beam in some way?

sounds like you had a very specific idea of what beam profile you wanted - mce + fresnel

i’d love to see some beamshots

how about the tail switch - it that totally custom, too?!

That’s how that Polymer reflector is designed. Have a closer look at the #6 photo and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s there to actually project the die, just like an aspheric, but it’s slightly out of focus, so the black diamond shape of the spacing between the dies isn’t so obvious, but it’s still there. I’ve chosen that optic/reflector, because it was the tightest possible out there, but am a little disappointed since there are visible artifacts in the beam shape, pretty much like it was an incan out of focus. There was a diffuser on top of that reflector, which I removed to get as much light as possible out the front. Everything you see on these photos is custom made out of my had, including switch assembly, which will need some really fine tuning, to get it function properly.

The 225 reflector is available at Cutter , but it’s rather expensive.

very nice work! you could probably just switch from mce to xml with the current lens and you would gain nicer beam profile and maybe a little more light (xml2 warm white in near future?)

Well, glad you guys like it so much. It took me a while to put all the bits and pieces together, but here it is.

Head OD is 43mm, tube OD 30mm and tailcap OD 35mm. Overall length is 153mm.

What’s next? Huh, there’s a Tiablo A9 (C8 is the same I guess) reflector lying in a box somewhere and there are some 32650 batteries covered with dust. Plenty of NW XM-Ls on hand too. On the other hand I also have plenty of TaskLed Maxflex and LFlex drivers and tripple XP-E, XP-G2 and XT-E boards. We’ll see what comes first to my mind.
Here is a build I did for a friend a while ago.

Your right, you dont need a lathe with your skills.
