Looking for a AA lantern.

I nearly got a good deal on a really good D powered lantern a few weeks back but as I dont have any D batteries or anything to charge them with.

I have only really found 2 so far of interest and 1 of them has the only review of it as being horrible and the other I’m not sure will cut it.

Is anyone able to recommend a good one or have and advice?

Thanks for any help.

I have a couple of these that I like. RAYOVAC SPORTSMAN LIGHTS, 65 LUMEN, 1 WATT LED MINI LANTERN WITH 3 AA BATTERIES

And here are some user reviews

This is what i use around the house, they make awesome nightlights for the kids and they use 3 AA’s and pretty much last about two days with it continuously on. My wife got me 4 bundle packs that included a 3 led two mode headlamp per bundle pack…….and the price per bundle was just 10 dollars.

I really like my Coleman 4AA Pack-away (collapsible) lantern. Not sure if it's available outside the US. Overpriced at that link. Think I paid $14 at my local Walmart. Low isn't much dimmer than high but conserves battery power. Does have strobe. I did the glass frosting spray mod shown over at CPF.

You might want to take a look at this one: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/12952

Uses 4x AA a nice diffused beam and a warm white XP-E. The diffuser on top can be removed to use it as a torch with a small OP reflector. T-mart are out of stock but you should be able to find it on ebay, it can also go under the name of ‘Sunrei’ C3 I think.

Thanks guys, I like both of the 4AA ones so far.

The Colemans beam didn’t look so great though here

And the video here of the Sunree one looks pretty sweet apart from the flickering, I found them in all different colours as well.

If that’s the same video that I watched of it before then the flickering is an effect of the camera shutter speed on the PWM on low mode. It won’t look like flickering in real life. I really wanted that lantern a while back and had a best offer accepted on ebay before they told me it was out of stock and didn’t send it.

I gave up after that but might try and find another now.

There are a few on eBay for about $30, I’m am considering buying one now but I’ll hold out a day or 2 to see what else there is.

Thanks for brining this one up.

The beam of the Coleman Pack-Away is very nice after spraying the lens with glass frosting spray. Here's the CPF thread (I think I linked it on a BLF post somewhere.) It's best as a camping light since it compacts so small. For serious lighting I use a 3D Rayovac Sportsman Extreme 300 lumen lantern.

The Energizer 360 LED area light is on my list - it runs on either 3 AAs or 3 D cell batteries.

i have two of these for the kids, going to swap the bulbs out for something LED eventually if i find something suitable
then this one, not AA but its pretty nice for camping

when I was looking to replace an old, inefficient “4D” lantern

helped give mean idea of what the latest led tech was bringing to the lantern realm; the “beam-shots” were informative and helpful in my search (as you’ll see from the pics, nothing like a real light bulb, though)

HERE

Thanks for that link flash.light. I have that 3D Rayovac and really like it. Great runtime and good output. Just like the link shows, it puts out much more light without the diffuser. I find it best to take the diffuser off and hang it upside down from overhead (I use a shepherd's hook outside when we do bonfires). It is available at Lowe's for the same price or less compared to Amazon.
