Foy Does Match Mod's Mini Mag

Like many of you, I have a few unloved Mini Mags gathering dust. Decided to give Match's mod a try. I used a P7 emitter that began life as a Solarforce P60 drop-in. Here you go Match, I owe it all to you.

Is it brighter? (he he, mesofunny)

Here's a Mini Mag LED on high.

Here's the MM Foy P7. (that's what I'm calling it - MM = Match Mod)

Just finished it so, no run times or anything. I was just excited at how well it turned out and wanted to share my new creation. Thanks for watching.

Nice. The reflector seems to work better than most with the P7 - no sign of a dark cross in the middle of the hotspot.

Probably not a runtime monster though.

I wonder if I should have lifted the reflector just a touch forward of the emitter - for a little throw? To do that I would have had to make it more shallow and I didn't want to do that.

Yeah, it's gonna suck a couple of AAs dry fast.

For the bit, right? I had to buy one too.

Woot! Excellent job, Foy! It's nice seeing someone get something useful out of my mod posts. Interesting to note that the P7 doesn't require a spritz of clearcoat on the reflector to get rid of any artifacts or rings. Which driver did you end up using?

Again, nice work

I just took off the reflector and the spring and dropped that bad boy in my new bored out Mini Mag so, it's whatever under driven driver Solarforce uses. It needs a boost, doesn't it?

Another great mod, nice to see all these projects :)

Is it on nimh or Liion? You could DD it on three 2/3 AA Nimh....

Great Job! i got one of those laying around somewhere. i think ill give it a try.

Okay, I screwed up the beam shots on this last night. After looking at it on my kitchen wall (was about 4 feet away) I wondered why it didn't have the classic P7 ring/dead hole. Went outside to the always reliable Ugly Wall test facility and sure enough; there's the hole.

Herewith, what the beam really looks like with no reflection or whatever it was. First, Mini Mag LED.

And, the Match Mod Foymag P7.

Two beginer observations:

1. The regular Mini Mag LED has a center spot just as bright or even brighter than the Match Mod Foymag but the Foymag equals or almost equals the Mini Mag's center spot and, has much more spill.

2. This emitter needs more juice. It's brighter with alkies than with NiMH which, makes sense because my NiMH are 1.2 volts and the alkalines are 1.5.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, I'm just stumbling through this trying to learn. I think it needs mo power.
