My first MTG2 flashlight***comparison added***

Nice! Hmm...I happen to have a spare T13 host laying about unused, too.

I’m liking that it fits in an xm-l reflector.

I think the torchlite host that’s on the way will definitely end up with an mt-g2, has anyone tried the warm white yet? Because given cutters shipping, I was going to order a few things at once.

Good job darcangel it looks like this won’t be all that difficult to fit into a two cell host, biggest difficulty will lie in finding a big enough reflector as I’m not an aspheric fan at all.

Nice mod darcangel. I can put up with that sort of rambling all day. What driver did you use as I thought these had a different voltage requirement th the XM-L?

thanks for the info

i think this mod, and the other mods we’ll see over the next couple months, will put to rest the claims of a few people that this emitter isn’t good for flashlights LOL

Awesome mod! 8) :star:

PLEASE MORE DETAILS AND PICS!

What driver did you use?
Did you have to modify the reflector in any way?
Where did you purchase your MTG2? Link?

I am thinking in getting one and glue it to a computer heatsink then stuff it inside a spotlight. Is that what you had in mind?

Congrats on your succesful build!

I agree, I’m wondering if the family can go without food for a week to cover the bits I need want.

Alex gt, check the edc+ 26650 host thread……

Thanks gords for refering me to that thread here

I wonder how that 5A multi emitter driver discussed there will perform with the MTG2 led

I think I’ll probably order one soon to experiment with it

we’re going to find out! they’ve both shipped and need only arrive at my door

I’ve just realised I’m giving up smoking, that’ll pay for the driver and mt-g2, I’m still going to wait though as I want to order some xp-g2’s and xm-l2’s as well.

Thanks all for the compliments,I used the factory driver with the zy-t13 and I think the resistor mod is responsible for the higher current to the led.I tried a driver I bought from IO,and the PWM sucked so I reverted to the original driver. The reflector kept shorting out the light and I ended up using a dremel to sand the bottom of the reflector, which was prolly a waste of time because it continued to short anyhow.I ultimately used heatshrink tubing to insulate it.I think the MTG2 is best off in a spotlight type reflector or something like the olight sr series. The MTG can take the 8.4 volts no problem even though it’s rated for 6 volts,I imagine the 9volt version would be good with 12volts+.My plan is to get a much larger host and better driver to unleash the potential of the emitter and get better heatsinking.edit:I bought the MTG2 from nitro and he got it from cutter electronics.

Hmm - how about the Defiant Spotlight for a host? kramer5150's build thread here.

-Garry

i think that’s the best candidate based on reflector

but I think the stanley fatmax might be an easier mod

Both these spotlights seem to be good size and would be perfect for the MTG2's huge die size. Now look what I started

imagine when some manufacturers get in on this and DESIGN a reflector for it

Yes, interesting, one other above requested a link to the source for the MT-G2 source — I, too, would like to know it, please…

I have ordered several and will have at least one extra. Shipping for one, or several, to NY was $13 plus about $2.5 ‘handling’…

You can isolate the led wires using kapton tape, it is very thin and can withstand high temperatures, I wish I had known of the group buy of MTG2’s I would have jumped in too.

there wasn’t really a group buy, i just ordered more than i need

so you just did, sort of

there is one on its way that is unspoken for - IF I don’t poof one when I test w/ this driver

This led could work really good with the Trustfire X7 SST-50, has a huge reflector and beefier heatsink… Might jus build it!

What is the biggest led reflector light out there?

I am interested if you decide to sell, let me know
