I think the torchlite host that’s on the way will definitely end up with an mt-g2, has anyone tried the warm white yet? Because given cutters shipping, I was going to order a few things at once.
Good job darcangel it looks like this won’t be all that difficult to fit into a two cell host, biggest difficulty will lie in finding a big enough reflector as I’m not an aspheric fan at all.
Nice mod darcangel. I can put up with that sort of rambling all day. What driver did you use as I thought these had a different voltage requirement th the XM-L?
i think this mod, and the other mods we’ll see over the next couple months, will put to rest the claims of a few people that this emitter isn’t good for flashlights LOL
I’ve just realised I’m giving up smoking, that’ll pay for the driver and mt-g2, I’m still going to wait though as I want to order some xp-g2’s and xm-l2’s as well.
Thanks all for the compliments,I used the factory driver with the zy-t13 and I think the resistor mod is responsible for the higher current to the led.I tried a driver I bought from IO,and the PWM sucked so I reverted to the original driver. The reflector kept shorting out the light and I ended up using a dremel to sand the bottom of the reflector, which was prolly a waste of time because it continued to short anyhow.I ultimately used heatshrink tubing to insulate it.I think the MTG2 is best off in a spotlight type reflector or something like the olight sr series. The MTG can take the 8.4 volts no problem even though it’s rated for 6 volts,I imagine the 9volt version would be good with 12volts+.My plan is to get a much larger host and better driver to unleash the potential of the emitter and get better heatsinking.edit:I bought the MTG2 from nitro and he got it from cutter electronics.
You can isolate the led wires using kapton tape, it is very thin and can withstand high temperatures, I wish I had known of the group buy of MTG2’s I would have jumped in too.
The olight sr95 are some of the largest I have seen, like I said earlier I put the MTG2 in the TN31 reflector and it didn’t throw very well. The sst-90 reflectors at illuminationmachines.com are huge but tend to flood the beam because of the diamond shaped pattern.I think x7 and x6 might be big enough but spotlight is probably ideal at 5 to 6 inches.
