First Spik68 clone ... mixed feelings

Today I got my first sipik68 clone from Ebay (seller easebon). Bought the grey model because i read that the quality used to be a little bit more homogeneous. A few months ago I bought 4 from ebay too, but german post managed to get them all lost.

Sorry guys but i can’t do a great review like the ones we use to find here in this forum. The most technical comments i can make about it are:
-it works
-it’s a cute little thing
-if i stare for too long at the led when it’s on, it’s painfully blinding. Not sure how many lumens that is. Help welcome.

Labelled as Cree Q5 NF-A651, 3 modes. It can tail stand, but since the tailcap protudes a little bit, i’m not sure if it would still stand if the surface’s angle was a few degrees different.

So far, so good, but….

the machined segment below the bezel has too much side play when i try to zoom in/zoom out, and it’s defective. The two cuts that form the section are not parallel, so this “wide ring” is kinda twisted. Looks weird and makes the whole thing crooked….

I’ll try to contact the seller, ebay and paypal, but i’m not very optimistic. anybody had the same problem?

My sipik that I just bought is a little sloppy too but mine is “genuine.”

what do you mean genuine? i think we’d start using DNA techniques to find the “genuine” Sipiks 68… Anyway, i just got a message from the seller, offering me a 2 USD refund, so i don’t send it back…. need to think about it, i guess ebay and paypal could offer a better solution…

That’s why I used the quotes. I bought mine from tmart. It was listed as a sipik light. I’ve been told some of the clones are better than the original but with the Chinese copycat business going full bore, how would anyone know the difference?

In the case of the Bigger Sipik, the SK98, the opposite is true. The clones are better than the original in that they have better heat sinking.
So, sometimes a clone is a good thing.
Thanks,
Keith

@Lakemonster & Muto : I knew i’d get a fake one, not that i minded. But after opening the package, i was kind of enthusiastic about the little light, and more when i dropped a regular alkaline in it, brighter than i had expected. But then i realised about the problem. I know 6 bucks is not to make a big problem about it, but at the same time, when you think you just made a great deal for that little money…what can i say? my cheapstakeish little heart was disappointed
