Uniquefire l2 strange problem

Hi guys i have just received my new light and decided to give it a test i have been running it on 2 AW IMR cells i had the light on for approx 5 mins and the light started flashing not continually but say one flash every 20 or so seconds. Has anyone experienced this before and know how to resolve it ?

Many thanks

Charles

It sounds too me like a low voltage warning....did you charge the cells before you put them in.

Yes mate freshly charged

Does the pill have modes.......it might be stuck on beacon.....

It does sound like a low voltage warning, my Romisen RC-I3 has that. Possibly a damaged low-voltage circuit? But at any rate you might try some different batteries just to be sure.

It's a single mode light so can't be that, i am recharging the cells now so ill see tonight if that makes any difference.

What would you expect the run time to be on this light considering i'm only using cr123 cells ?

Many thanks

Charles

Ok so now that i have got this light what can i do to make it brighter ? i know you can change the drop in but which would be best i want lots of throw really. Also whats the difference between drop in types i have seen p60 and p7 which would be the right type for this light.

Many thanks

Charles

The runtimes are going to be short.....do you have any 18650 cells that you can try, since they would have the most mah....as for the dropins you might want to chat with Don about that since i just got my very first light that takes dropins.

This is a single-mode XP-G R5, right? Is the ring around the spring on the bottom of the pill red? I guess it's the same one I got in my 502B (reviewed here). Mine is pretty bright at 4.2V, but it doesn't seem at all well-regulated and the current drops with the voltage. You could try a more powerful driver. I used the Shiningbeam driver (1.4A, but more like 1.2A to the LED) with an R4 (details here), but I don't think it's any brighter than the one that came with the R5, though it has better regulation. There are some drivers meant for P7's that might work (up to 2.8A) but they also might be too much for the LED. I don't think they will necessarily supply 2.8A automatically, just up to 2.8A if the LED wants it. So it could be safe.

If you drive it harder, make sure the heatsinking is working. A hot LED will put out less light. My homemade drop-in gets the 504B (just like your L2) about as hot as I can hold in about 10 minutes. There are brighter LED's, but the R5 is more efficient than a P7 and might be as much light as you can advisably get in a P60 host unless you just want it bright for a few minutes (or maybe on a bicycle which might air cool it).

For a little more throw, you could try a smooth reflector. I'll put up some shots later on of an R5 with OP vs. SMO reflectors for comparison.

I have a Uniquefire L2 with XP-G R5 as well. I used mine with (1) 18650 but I tried the drop-in part in a Surefire 6P and it fried my XP-G emitter. I had the 5 mode version. I ended up not wanting to wait another month for DX so I got a Thrunite R5 drop-in with 3 modes and no strobe modes and a lower low. It was much more expensive but in this case was worth it to me. It's now my main, general purpose light.

However, I have several on these Uniquefire bodies to use as P60 hosts. I've but a DX XR-E R2 single mode drop-in in one of them and have created a pretty good dedicated thrower. You mention that you'd like a thrower. If you just want a light that throws but can be used as a general purpose light then that's all you need to do.

I wanted a dedicated thrower in P60 size so I did some more modifications (in case you are interested in doing something like this). I replaced the front glass lens with a $2 DX glass aspheric lens (28mm). I painted the drop-in reflector matte black, painted the top surface of the little silver ring that goes around the base of a XR-E emitter and using Scotch "Magic" (translucent) tape I masked all but the center portion of the back of the aspheric lens.

That eliminated all of the artifacts common with cheap aspheric lens that result in an ugly beam while still preserving maximum throw. The tape just diffuses the light (and the artifacts) but doesn't interfer with the center portion which is the focused beam (image of the emitter).

The end result is a "spotlight". You only illuminate what you are pointing it at rather than everything around you and it as well.

I was able to replace the reverse clicky with a forward clicky which is nice for this kind of light.

So were you able to fix the blink mode.

Sorry guys forgot to reply yeah you were right it was the batts now that i have fully charged them the light is fine thanks for all your help

Charles

Cool.....sometimes that happens to me as well....i think i charged them but soon realize that i didnt. Im also in your predicament about dropins....looking for another for my other L2m.

I may just stick with it for now and buy something different that way i can put off buying a new charger and cells aswell, I have been looking at the Led lenser P7 it looks like a very capable light and having a few of their lights already i know their build quality is second to none.

Yes i know what you mean, i have the Frogman and its a nice light indeed.
