Tool for adjusting SRM 723 knife

I picked up a little Sanrenmu 723 a few months back (thanks phlowcus, for the heads up), and want to take the clip off. Does anyone know what size torx I should use? Or where to get such a tool, or toolset?

Fasttech have what looks to be a nice set, but it’s certainly overkill, but maybe handy anyway if it will do the job.

I also have an Enlan EL01 and was able to get the clip off that with a little screwdriver set that I picked up in Aldi, but the SRM is smaller.

The set you linked looks OK - but wouldn’t your local B&Q or Halfords have something similar?

Cheers

Probably, but I don’t know what size torx fits the 723. Anyway, much more fun getting stuff in the mail

Well I guess you could always take it with you, and try it for size…

Make sure that it has identical size torx screws.
Those on one of my two SRM’s are visually similar, but have physically slightly different sizes, the smaller one fits the smallest bit from my Weitus set while the the second one, which is slightly bigger, is not big enough to be unscrewed with next biggest torx bit from my set, so I cant remove it.

Ah, if only life were so simple. UK knife laws are such that if I did produce the knife in pubic, err, public, and someone reported it, I’d be looking at a prison term - pretty well guaranteed. Just because the blade is lockable.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable drawing out any knife in a shop even if the laws weren’t so draconian.

Pubic, lol

Sorry, couldnt resist :D!

Most all pocket knives can be disassembled with a selection of Torx…T6-T8-T10.
Here is a link for a small multi Torx screwdriver that is excellent. The link is just for you to view the product, you can then google it to find an available supplier.

OK, thanks - tbh I’d never heard of torx heads before, though I’ve probably got a few of the bigger ones. I’ve found a few small sets - thanks again.

Oh, and I’ll edit my naughty typo - would definitely get arrested if that word was involved lol/

I try it with my 723 - a torx T6 fit.

My F1-723 does not have torx screws but allen screws (hexagonal). Blade can be adjusted with 2mm allen key, liners with 1.5mm and the clip almost takes a 1.5mm allen but it is not exacly the right size (perhaps some oddball size like 1.4, 1.3 or 1.26mm allen key).

Sometimes you can turn allen screws with a suitable torx bit (like 2mm allen turns nicely with T8 as long as no large force is needed). T6 is yet too large to fit it. Perhaps you could try something like T5 or T4.

I ordered this from Amazon, so hopefully the T6 will fit. Funnily enough I always thought the heads were allen, until I started reading about knives on here, and realised that they were a little different.

If it doesn’t fit, the torx set will probably come in handy for taking my pc apart.

Thanks again for all your help.

You should be able to work on any folder with that set.

You worry too much. Carry it to the shop in a bag (therefore you can not be accused of carrying it on your person). Once in the shop you try the tool that fits, you wouldn’t have to even open the knife would you?

Worse case if you were stopped, just explain the reason for having the tool/knife in the bag. You would not get a jail term, it wouldn’t even make it to court.

Do they actually stop people and search their pockets at will over there?

Depends on what part of the country you are in, your attitude, and the colour of your skin. I’d be OK.

I’ll happily wait for the torx set to arrive. I’m pretty sure that even with it concealed in a bag, you are still “in possession”, just the same as if it you have one in your car. I’ve read a few petty cases (which on appeal even the judges thought should never have been brought), and don’t really want to be a guinea pig.

I’m happy enough in the knowledge that the clip should be off pretty soon.

Have you a link please? Are you thinking about the OAP caught with the swiss army knife that was reported a while back?

As you say, it all depends on many things. If you were in the shop trying to find a tool to fit I’m sure you would be fine, if you were in the shop flipping the blade out with a group of teenage mates wearing hoodies=trouble. The main thing is that you are aware of the law and you do what you feel is OK to you.

We don’t really have any knife laws, aside from autos. If there’s an ado at three in the morning, in the entertainment district, and you have a ten inch filleting knife, the cop is going to want to see your salmon.
