The only light I have ever seen that took a drop test like that, was one that had a very thick rubber outer skin on the whole light. It would bounce, but it never would break. Also it had a plastic lens which never broke. Yes, I did a torture test with it, throwing it hard on the concrete several times... It felt very satisfying, except it wouldn't break, LOL. Maglites fall apart rather easily too.
Looks like it's going to be cheaper to buy two new lights than to buy replacement parts for these guys.
I have set aside an infirmary for the incoming patients.
All the talk about the ZL's being delicate flowers...what a crock of crap! That's some tough stuff!! I have new respect for the two I have now but I will NEVER put them through any of that stuff. :p
And both had been boiled at 212F. I guess the UF-T50 had had enough fun. Oh well. Thanks for your excellent work! This has definitely been eye opening. Looking forward to seeing if the SC600 can survive mkett39’s tests
Nice work guys. Funniest competition I've heard off for along time. OL, no piking out now. The whole of BLF is going to be watching you wave your magic over these two lights so that they may be something they were never meant to be. Good luck.
I think the dimming of the SC600 after a while is the built-in timer in it. Using a stopwatch, I have tried it several times in my SC600. If started on TURBO mode, the light will step-down to HIGH after exactly 5min, 3 secs., or if a ‘tired’ cell is used, then it will step-down anytime below 5min.
A bit of glass is missing on the SC600, right?! It needs emergency care before mkett39’s bucket of oil! The T50 is dead, its lost already. Let us treat our wounded! Please!
Just got the package and do I have some news for you! I decided just for the heck of it to drop a fresh battery in the UF and she functions perfectly. So it seems we will have two working lights to conduct the test on. Hope to do test fri or Sat and will post pics and results.
I’m willing to bet it had a bad connection with the head off the body tube. The pill in the T50 is basically soldered to the body and you can break this solder connection and have issues, I have with mine, but if it’s together snugly mine works fine.
