Review: APEX 5T6 (5 x Cree XM-L T6 | 4 x 18650)

We're glad that you joined, jlogres!

So are these your new ways of welcoming people?

Hi Jim! Welcome to BLF! You'll love being here! :)

Good point, I'll try to take that into account in my future reviews.

Bingo! ;)

Glad to be here as a member and not just as a reader … tnx for considering my opinion

Is there a chance that the tail cap fit exactly to the head lamp ?
I mean can you screw the tail cap to the head lamp without the battery body, with or without the switch plate ?

I know … strange question

It doesn’t. Sorry.

Tail cap thread diameter is too small. :frowning:

Ok the

Thanks a lot for your time

I wasnt very impressed with my apex 5t6 from CPF but it is my first multi-emmiter and first big format torch.
My light is very focused with not much spill like I have seen in other pictures but I did choose the warmer colour option. At least it runs for about 4 hours on a set of batteries but that isnt why I bought it.

When I test it with my cheap multimeter I was getting 3a max dropping to nearly two once the batteries settle to 3.8v. So cpf sent me a new driver with a beefier looking coil but it doesnt seem to have changed the draw. Could the leds be duff?

Anyway if anyone wants to try and replace the driver with out taking the pain in the backside front ring off heres how I did mine with a picture. Iv busted both my hands before and didnt have the grip to turn it.

Drilled a hole where I guessed no components would be using the new one as reference (might not work if your driver is very different). Screwed in a long slim self tapping screw, grabbed it with the cutter on my pliers and levered down on the torch head. It was glued but once it popped came right out.

Cleared off the old glue and filed new driver board round as it had lumps on the edge. Glued back in with heatsink white plaster.

I finally made my APEX 5T6 Bike light project .
I believe that you will find it interesting.

Hi, could you tell me the size of these tiny reflectors?.
Regards.

they are 15.55mm height and 21.9mm diameter, any other measurement needed, pr is it enough with these? (it has a groove in the bottom)

Thank you very much.
I asket it because I’d like to change on of them on my apex (which I have glued with threadlocker, that’s why I asked, i didn’t want to re apply it for nothing) with one of these XML optic, they are Diameter: 21.2mm Height: 13mm.
http://www.intl-outdoor.com/2-pcs-cree-xml-led-optic-10-degrees-p-474.html

the diameter seems ok, but looks like the height is a bit shorter :frowning:

i bought all 5-packs of lenses from fasttech, to experiment with the angles (15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120, there is not 10 degree in fasttech) they are the same size the one you linked.
they should arrive this or next week, so if you want to wait a little i will let you know the results and if i did manage to install them (i was planning to remove the front glass, as i don’t need a watertight light, and make a plate with five holes to fit the lenses… lets see if it works)

thank you very much, I’d like to replace one or two reflectors with optics with a tight angle of emission, this light is too much flood for me.

i didn’t read it correctly the first time, i think its not a problem if they are short, you can make some piece to put in there, i have the problem because thoe tir lenses i bought are bigger, so i have to remove the front galss

What a pity, let me know anyway how it ends.

I think this is the same thing as this one from Lightmalls.

Curious about this:

Hi totilde. How did your TIR swap go? Which angles did you go with?

Im going to replace the lenses in a similar light and would appreciate your input.

Hello!
Unfortunately it was not a success… I explain
I received three 5 lenses packs (15, 30 and 120 degrees) whithout specs that don’t fit the XML . Well, actually they fit, but they are too big, so it’s almost impossible to center them. I tried a ceiling beamshot, but when I touched the light the tirs fell down… I gave up
I also received one tir designed for the XML (https://www.fasttech.com/products/1144800) and it does perfectly fit, and makes a good beam. The problem is that I have only one of these so I can’t check in this light. (I checked in a c8, typical tir beam profile, an even spot)
For the size, there is no problem, there’s plenty of room for them, and holding them in place is very easy too, they have 4 “legs” in the bottom designed to fit around the square part of the emitter, so It stays perfectly centered and its even possible to glue them there. The thing I don’t like much is that it is a 30 degree…

I’m going to order 4 more to complete it, but dont know when ( im waiting to make a bigger order) If you need some measurements, let me know and I take the vernier in a second.
