4.2-8.4V XML drop-in

The "Official UltraFire-Shop" lists its XML drop-in as having an input up to 8.4V!

If true that could be good for maintaining full output by using 2x18650.

My ultrafire dropin from Manafont has not arrived yet, (is smooth reflector only and listed as 4.2V by Manafont)....but any thoughts on trying it with higher voltages than 4.2v when it gets here?

Gets quite expensive if it turns out not to be 8.4V capable. Been there, melted that...

Good find, but far too expensive.

Guess I'll have to wait a little longer for a decent budget buck driver for XM-L to show up. :((

there will be others available soon enough.

I'm a bit out of the loop, been busy.

But are there any good P60 XM-L dropins which accept at least 8.4V i.e. 2x18650? And at least 2 or 3 modes. Even better if it has a low feedback voltage and graceful handling of out of regulation (sort of like the AX2002, AX2003 perhaps?) so it can survive okay on 1x18650.

KD have a few 8.4V ones but only 1 mode :-( Haven't actually found any that are multi mode 8.4V at least not at the cheap Chinese retailers.

I checked the link in the OP and it now says:

Input: 4.2V~4.7V

Which also seems strange...too high for one 18650, too low for 2 CR123's, what are you going to run it on, 3xAAA?

Its not as cheap or as bright as the manafont XML but thrunite makes a 3 mode XML that accepts 2.7v-9v. I believe its run at 1.5 amps. I use it in my L2r with 2 14500's. Not as jaw dropping as the manafont dropin but bright enough for my work none the less

The thrunite is the only "budget" one I can think of, at 23. The next up would be a Malkoff M91, but you'd have to be mad to pay $125 for one-and they're surefire only, run at 2.4 amps ish and runs 2 cells.

I ordered one of the Thrunite XM-L's today along with a nylon holster for the 2 504b hosts you guys convinced me to buy through Manafont. Manafont did not seem to have any XM-L drop-ins that folks here have been happy with. I got the Thrunite from lightnound, which is nice in that I'll have it in hand in about a week. Downside is they charge 7 bucks for shipping.

BTW, the other choice in drop-ins without going the $125 route is Nailbender's drop ins, I think they run about $45 or so.

He uses linear regulators too, so one cell.

Okay thanks for the help so far. ThurNite looks okay although a bit more then I'd like to spend particularly if I can't find someone with cheapish shipping to NZ. Perhaps just give up on two cells for now ;-)

Which is a point not that it really matters since there aren't any claimed 8.4V ones that interest me. But in terms of the 'advertised as 8.4V' (or whatever) but actually not, anyone ever managed to convince the retailer to take it back/replace it? I would say even knowing how useless the specs tend to be, it's still a case of 'not my fault, you told me it would be fine' if did happen I kill a dropin by running it within the claimed voltage range. Trying to convince one of the Chinese retailers of this may be another issue and of course I wouldn't do it if I had good reason to suspect the specs were wrong.
