surefire z2 Combat Light 29.99 used and abused

Military surplus store with a bunch of them. Not working no batteries (no bulb) whatever that means. I have no idea if this is worth rebuilding or not, or if it even needs it.

The old z2 is a P60 host, the tail cap should still be under warranty

Very cool. I got an e-mail from the seller and he said he simply has never tested any of them. But if they can be fixed up it might be a good deal anyway. I have bought more than my limit this month and next so I will have to wait and see what he has left.

I snapped up one. Might be fun to see if I can get it working. I got some spare parts from Solarforce so all I should need is a drop in, lens and bore out the tube to 18mm.

I have a drop in I can test it with but not a spare one. I do have a spare lens. At least I can see what componet is not working and order a drop in as needed.

Right on, Keep us posted it will be interesting to see how things turn out. A not so budget light at a budget price would be cool.

The only reason I picked one up is the price and the fact that it is Z2. If it were a 6P I would pass. I have been wanting a weapon light with this body style. Was going to order a Solarforce L2T but this actually works out cheaper.

why buy an old and abused in not working condition light for that price? when you can buy this light for much cheaper… and it is very bright

I have that light already. There is a vast world of difference in quality between a UF C8 and a Surefire Z2 or Solarforce light. I know C8s are popular here but they are basically junk. There is no way a C8 would be able to handle the abuse required of a weapon light. They are too cheaply built to take any damage at all. The lens is large and thin. The head is very thin aluminum which woukd deform if dropped. The internals are delicate. I shorted out my first one just because I tightened the head down with that plastic washer not fully in place. Ruined the light instantly.

I feel kind of foolish buying a beat up Surefire for $34 when Solarforce has the L2N on sale for $12.99 without a drop in. I’m going to order one and compare the two. My past experience with Solarforce has been exceptional. They make great lights.

I got the Surefire today. No drop in at all. Popped in a spare drop in I had and a set of batteries and it worked fine.

Thanks for confirming speedsix, lifetime warranty=worth thirty bucks

What type of condition was it in? Any photos?

Cool and thanks for letting us know.

These don’t fit 18650’s without being bored right?

It must be bored to accept anything larger than CR123’s.

A 17650 should fit, no 18650’s till its Bored out.

Check the link, looks like that one. Lots of wear on tail cap and bezel. A number etched in the body. Looks to have been used and carried a lot.

My lens is a little scratched up but usable. Anyone know how to remove the bezel from these? They don’t look to unscrew like my Solarforce bezels. I see threads inside but don’t see a joint where the bezel is.

The bezel is some sort of plastic, probably nylon. You will need a bezel removal tool (check out Xeno) or you can try to remove it using a needle nose plier. Use a piece of cloth so that you don’t damage the notches on the bezel.

Pretty used. Thank you. But it works!

The light you have has the old style bezel which was discontinued about 2004. The lens is lexan rather than the glass used in the newer model. The way to get the old lens out is to break it and pull out the pieces. To replace it you’ll need a Surefire Z17 lens replacement kit, available on the same auction site where you got the flashlight. I just noticed one seller asking 9.00 for the kit. Surefire used to give them away but I don’t think they have any more. The kit contains a plastic lens, an o-ring, and a small patch of rubber. You’ll need all this plus a coin and a vise to put the new lens in. I’ve done quite a few of these and it’s not as easy as it sounds.

So if you get a light with a bad lens it’s going to cost you another 9.00. If you get get one where the front of the bezel is bent, you’ll have to form it back into a circle. This is no mean feat.
