Review: Skyray King (3xXM-L - 4x18650)

Hi. Some have used magnet 1mm x 5mm +superglued around outside edges +on positive anode of your flat top battery. Otherwise, buy proper battery.

Or a drop of solder.

Thank you for your help, finally I ordered Xtar 18700 2600mah batteries.

Anyone know how waterproof these are? :D

I have one. Trying not to drop it in a especially deep puddle as yet.

Frankly speaking. I’m not too confident about the waterproofing. The threads are quite shallow on the front bezel. The glass is not tight enough to seal the front. However, I’ve not seriously tested it.

King is not waterproof. The on/off button is not water-tight, water can seep in.

Is this the only major flaw?

If I were to replace the switch with a water-tight one, would the rest of the internals be relatively safe?

I'm talking about just quickly dropping it into water and picking it back up quickly. Not diving or long-term submersion. :P

Cheers.

I wish they made a SRK for diving…it’d be a perfect dive light

I also have a question, well, two:

Given the sheer amount of lumens that it outputs, hows the throw compared to C8 thats driven at 1Amp?
Will King throw as far and will have huge-spill like hotspot or will it be much dimmer?

Also, is there a light for <50$ that is as good or even better than King regarding light output-power?

Do you mean an XR-E based C8? It may not throw further, the C8 has a big head for an XR-E, but you will be able to see a lot more in the direction you point it.

The King can be had for around $40 now, there aren’t many excuses left not to get one

Yeah, Ive read plenty to see that it looks like a great light, I might get one depending how low the price goes during Wallbuys reservation sale :D!

Yes, its XR-E based C8, driven at 1Amp :D!

Well, if things are clearly visible at 100-150 meters/yards, then Id be very interested in it :D!

Fast tech carries the Warm White version now. Looks like it is a hot sunny light!

By the way, it was published with the details below. Doesn’t seem to withstand water like the experts had mentioned here.

Details:
Press the switch for 3 seconds to enter the “Rapid” mode
Ordinary waterproof function, can be used in rainy days
Working voltage: 3.6-4.2V
Working current: 2000mA

Hi,

New on here but I’m after a light that is more a thrower for distance work. The crelant has the new u3 led and is designed as a thrower, but has less lumen output. This has maybe double the lumens, but is built more as a flood light. In reality, will there be much difference between the two? SRK is a little cheaper as well, which always helps. Any opinions welcome.

SRK is definitely more of a flooder.
And FYI throwers normally have a lower lumen count, single LED and long reflector.

Check out the TN31, that’s probably the next thrower I’m getting.

Just had a look at the TN31 and it looks fantastic, unfortunately it’s a little expensive for me. Could get 6 SRK for the price of the TN31. Is there anything else along similar lines but a little cheaper?

Guess my original question was, does the big lumens of the SRK almost cancel out the gains of a long reflector as in the crelant or thrunite.

No it doesn’t not even close, the SRK would be lucky to throw 300m, the TN31 can do 800m from what I’ve read.

OK, thanks for the clarification.

another mimic from DX!

Thanx for this review. I ordered a Sky Ray King from Ali Express and the item arrived this noon - 21 days after I made the order.

I don’t know if this is the original SRK but I’m very impressed with the quality of its workmanship and the brightness of its beam. Its not as bright as my Black Shadow Terminator but it is floodier. More importantly, for the price of P39.99 w/free shipping, a budget flashaholic could never ask for more.

I recieved my new skyray King today, and wow its a real Retinaburner for its size. I will be doing a test comparison to my other big lights and beam shots as soon as the snow melts and it gets a bit warmer outside.
