New on here but I’m after a light that is more a thrower for distance work. The crelant has the new u3 led and is designed as a thrower, but has less lumen output. This has maybe double the lumens, but is built more as a flood light. In reality, will there be much difference between the two? SRK is a little cheaper as well, which always helps. Any opinions welcome.
SRK is definitely more of a flooder.
And FYI throwers normally have a lower lumen count, single LED and long reflector.
Check out the TN31, that’s probably the next thrower I’m getting.
Just had a look at the TN31 and it looks fantastic, unfortunately it’s a little expensive for me. Could get 6 SRK for the price of the TN31. Is there anything else along similar lines but a little cheaper?
Guess my original question was, does the big lumens of the SRK almost cancel out the gains of a long reflector as in the crelant or thrunite.
No it doesn’t not even close, the SRK would be lucky to throw 300m, the TN31 can do 800m from what I’ve read.

Thanx for this review. I ordered a Sky Ray King from Ali Express and the item arrived this noon - 21 days after I made the order.
I don’t know if this is the original SRK but I’m very impressed with the quality of its workmanship and the brightness of its beam. Its not as bright as my Black Shadow Terminator but it is floodier. More importantly, for the price of P39.99 w/free shipping, a budget flashaholic could never ask for more. 
I recieved my new skyray King today, and wow its a real Retinaburner for its size. I will be doing a test comparison to my other big lights and beam shots as soon as the snow melts and it gets a bit warmer outside. :bigsmile:
The SRK has got to be the illumination bargain of the century for a flood light. With the 3 terroid driver version pulling 6.5A from the batteries, its driven hard enough to give 10 min of whitewall hunting, or 30 min of sustained outdoor use before becoming to hot to hold. Mounted as a bike light, it stays cool enough to run constantly in high mode for well over an hour before it starts to dim.
I have bought quite a few Skyray Kings for family and friends over a long period of time and kept six for my own use around the farm, some Gold some Black, some older XM-L ones and some XM-L U2 ones as well as the cheap and nasty lookalikes that I have thrown into the bin quite a while back.
When you get the good ones they are just fantastic and the best ones I have had so far are the ones from Ric at CNQ. I was wondering if the King will ever go to the U3 LED. The XM-L U2 updated models have a noticable increase in the lumen output and it is a bit better in throw without loosing any real spill. More lumens and throw for the same old low price are always welcome in my collection. Another mode so that the light levels could be spread out a bit more would be handy to have. Has anyone tried modding the King with U3 LEDs?

Just got my first SRK from Fasttech for $36 delivered 7 days from placing the order. I got the C3PO gold version. It came in a sturdy white box very similar to the one pictured from the OP except it had an extra sticker that had the “SKY RAY” logo. Same foam insert in the box. Spare O-ring, slightly darker lanyard. It is definitely brighter and more floody than my Shadow SL3, although it might not be a fair test since the battery in my SL3 was not topped off before the rough comparison. Also, I was running the SRK on only two cells. But if it holds, it is the brightest in my collection so far.
Anyway, the only real complaint I have so far is that the edges on the bezel are a bit sharp. Instant turn-off for my wife as she is sensitive to things like that. If you put it in a coat pocket it could snag. Anyone try smoothing down the edges? At least I won’t have to worry about the wife claiming this as her own!
Hi guys. I’ve just pulled the trigger on one of these lights, and not wanting to sound stupid, but would it be best to run it on protected cells or would it be ok on unprotected?
