SOLD ...WTS Crelant 7G5.V2 with collimator head..

I think the head still works on the new one. I got mine from mark, (username macedov?) and he can confirm for you. this is his site.

http://www.md-lightsource.com/

I prefer the old one because it can be used with 1x18650 or 2.

I’m not aware of anything in the same class that blows it out of the water (w/ aspheric), and I don’t think there’s anything to even match it at the price.

I had been on that site, will look again, think that is where I saw the new vs old issue w the upgrade head (?).

Don’t have an aspheric, yet, and I have heard the whole package is a quality light at a good price, may wait to see if they do U3.

Always a good Q to ask - would you buy one again? Thanks.

I just did

but I haven’t tried the new version and the 7g5v2 version sold here is out of stock everywhere except kaidomain, and they want too much money.

Now you baited the hook! I want one! Lunchtime, 6 minutes, must get on flashlight sites…fix jones!

The collimator head will also fit on the 7G5CS. That’s what i have it on.

The head will work just fine on the 7g5cs. It will only run on two 3.7v batteries though, unfortunately.

If you also get the 7g2cs, the battery tubes are interchangeable, and you can run it off of two 16340/18350. Two protected keeppower 18350 will not fit.

Thanks! I am on his site right now.

The U2 version is $23 less than the U3. (not much claimed difference in lumens output between the two). Plus the $$ head. Interestingly enough, he has one head listed in the accessory section and just the U3 version shows the head as an accessory.

(and I am conveniently trying to ignore that you have that head already mounted on your own!)(trying to leave work w/o suicidal urge to spend another $100 on lights and save my marriage…)

Says both versions are in stock, what is the best other price you have seen (KD?)…on something like this I might just be more comfortable going w a US supplier just in case.

How much do you notice increase in throw and tightness of beam w the aspherical head installed. Have you modded the driver (? your comment about green or UV led) for general usage?

I would not pay extra for emitter bin. I would buy it, use it for awhile, then when I wanted more oomph I’d put xml2 on copper star in it.

md-lightsource was selling the 7g5v2 w/ head for ~$85 for a short period of time when the new version came out. I don’t expect you’ll see these get much cheaper until the next version comes out (6 months to a year, guessing on previous releases). Mark’s price on those, w/ BLF coupon code, are tough to beat. I don’t think he has a crelant coupon code active anymore. There’s no way I’d buy from kaidomain over mark unless they beat him by a considerable margin.

The throw about doubles with the aspheric head. I have an extra pill, and the first one I bought is getting a green led and going to my uncle for pig hunting at night.

I will probably leave the stock driver in the original pill, but upgrade the emitter to de-domed xml2.

I’m not sure what I’ll do with the one I just bought, but I don’t keep many lights stock lol

The reason only the U3 version has the head listed as an accessory is that he doesn't have anymore of the heads in the Gray finish. I picked up the last one.

Coupon BLF or BLF10 should work to take off 10%.

I think you're better off going with the u2 version for under $70. The bump in power, ~30 lumens is not worth it. Also I'm not liking the new UI as much... if the tailcap is on, you can use the side button for 1 click on, 1 click off.

With the new version, instead of, OFF, you get medium, ANOTHER press is needed to turn it off with the side button.

Appreciate that on the emitter - I don’t have a U2 vs U3 to compare (and never have all the tints anyway) and quickly forgot information from the thread where output was measured and weighed.

Double the throw - wow! I may need a new ‘range’ to play at, I think.

Guess I need to go read some more about those lenses - I understand the concept as it pertains to camera lenses, eyeglasses, but no experience w flashlights, other than reading some threads. As long as I can upgrade the driver at some point, it becomes more interesting to me and more likely to be a valuable purchase that I hold onto.

Appreciate all the other information offered (and updates) as well!

The aspheric head is something else altogether, it more than doubles throw.

I fell in love with what it does. Some people like it, some do not, since it does mean seeing the diode outline when up close. Now if only we could round LEDs instead of square ones, I would be in light heaven :p

you might experiment with a pre-collimating lense if you don’t like the square die and lines

I think its awesome, to me it visually accentuates how spill free the beam is (corners). Plus, Non-flashaholics are like “WTH is thaT?!”

I still have a lot to learn with flashlights... I didn't realize there were such things as pre-collimating lenses. I really should stop thinking in terms of lasers & lights, but rather optics.

well, I use that term loosely. I’m not aware of any production lights that use them.

In fact, the first one I actually saw was on a PT-54 (flat, no dome emitter used mostly in projectors). The use a ~10mm lens right on top of it, then another ~23mm lens <1” away. It makes an interesting beam. I don’t really know, but I think they were trying to make it not only more concentrated (since bare the emitter is total flood) but also less divergent over a distance? than w/ 1 lens.

anyway, the second lens from a PT-54 is about right for pre-collimating the larger flashlight aspherics. I don’t get any higher readings from it collecting light that would otherwise miss the main lens (which DrJones has explained in a post), but by having the emitter out of focus in the first lens, you can end up with what might be a more pleasing beam to you, and nearly as much throw.

there’s an awful lot of fiddling involved though, at least for an optics layman like me…

Hmm, well, using another lens, or two would be interesting. Comes at the price of losing some power because of the lens itself though.

Definitely something to read up on :D

excuse my ignorance but I must ask, what is “shipped conus
only US or what ?

less than US

thanks for clarifying that, I am on the other side of the world
just ordered 7G5CS

As Dthrct said CONUS means all of the US except for Hawaii and Alaska.

So I needed an excuse and bought the Crelant w the head. Have to ask Mark about how to remove some HD manufacturing scum on the glass outer lense of the aspheric head.

Was told by a friend who does architectural lighting for stores that the new Luminous SST (or SBT?) –70 is a round die LED. Haven’t read anything about it yet, wondering where it will fit in or not in the flashlight world. Is there a light yet that offers it?
