Can you see any marks on the chip that might identify the chips used in the circuit?

Xtar SP 2, can charge with up to 2A, with a charger than can charge with less 1A it will take almost for ever to charge a 26650.

I’m building 5 1D mags for friends so as long as the chargers I bought works good I’m fine with them lol

Thank you for the pictures of internal of HG-106LIX. I wonder why the manufacturer chose to use 5 transistors instead of 1 IC for that charger? It was probably more economical for them to use the transistors than IC. Those pictures are so clear and sharp. Great pictures!

No charge control IC. So it would not be CC/CV.

Gut it & add one or two tp4056 usb charger boards inside. $1 on ebay (ebay search). 850mA charge current each, CC/CV chip (won’t overcharge, trickle charge after it shows done or change in termination voltage). HKJ tp4056 review.

It could also make a nice adjustable charging cradle for any other charger like Werner has done.

Flickering leds is a big sign it has no CC/CV charger IC.
Termination voltage that has ever changed like that is bad.

Review on IO also reports that it continues to trickle charge after light goes green.

Mine seems to do CV/CC, i’ve done some experimenting on it, when the LED is flickering it reads 4.14V on the battery, when it goes solid green its at 4.15V (laptop pull this takes 2-3 hours, ing kong about 1 hour, i can’t explain why the timing difference), and i’ve left it on green overnight, and if its trickle charging its very very slow, it was still at 4.15V. This charger never goes above 4.15V which is nice for longer cell life, but i want a 4.2V charger so i can fully charge a battery for the rare times when i do want longer usage

Its inconsistent. Which is to be expected for something like this.
One trickle charges, yours doesn’t seem to.
Yours started out with a 4.19v termination voltage, now 4.15v. Do you really want to still be using it if it decides to change again?
King kong charged in 1 hour would take 4 amps. Something is not right there. Have you tried to measure the charge current?

This thing has no charge controller chip. Charger chips are available quite inexpensively. You leave it out when your looking to manufacture it extremely cheap. Inconsistency comes from parts with poor tolerances. Parts may even be used near or above their limits. Manufactured extremely cheap just doesn’t go together with AC power & sold direct from china. If you teardown its AC transformer there is a good chance you’ll find it does not have proper separation.

I understand when anyone buys an item they want it to be good, they have invested in it. And this is sold by intl-outdoor who until now has seemed to carry good quality items.

my ml-102 charger did the same thing, first time 4.15V now 4.11V every time, and i check batteries about 75% of the time coming off both chargers and both are within 0.1V of their second time use (4.15V and 4.11V respectively)

Have you tried to measure the charge current?
On the 26650 / 32650 charger.

I’m trying to inform fellow members that this is a poor charger & could even be hazardous. I have no intent to be mean. Apologies if you felt I was trying to give you a hard time in any way.

If the wire broke at the point its soldered to circuit board you can reattach it by wrapping around the middle pin of the Q5 transistor. “Q5” is marked in white silkscreen on the brown side of the pcb (not on the transistor itself). Tape around the other two transistor pins (between them & the middle pin) to prevent shorts.
Q5 is the leftmost component in this pic.

Another option to still be able to charge your 26650, 32650 would be a $1.49 D cell battery holder. You can wire it to a dummy battery to insert into another charger. No soldering iron needed to make it.

Just need a cheap plastic pen & two bolts with nuts from a hardware store. Pull the point off the barrel of your pen. Get bolts with heads too large to drop completely into the barrel of your pen. The bolt’s threaded shaft should fit in tho. Wrap each wire from the battery holder around a bolt & tighten the nut down onto the wire. Wrap tape, paper or cereal box cardboard around the bolts threaded shaft until it fits snug in the pen barrel. Cut barrel down so its 65mm with the bolts in.

So why did this charger work so well if its not designed properly?
It broke at the metal piece that attaches to the negative terminal, i also can’t figure out how to put it back together, i shouldn’t have taken it apart tired, i can’t remember how it was pieced together

There are any number of ways to get to 4.15v. Some are dangerous.
Again, there are safety requirements for AC powered devices. Cheap devices sold direct from china don’t like to follow them.

It will appear to work fine. Until it doesn’t. Or you look closer.

What do you mean, it charges batteries to 4.14V, takes a while to charge to 4.15V (CV/CC i’m guessing) and terminates with no increase in cell voltage 12 hours later

i agree that the chinese will skimp on safety to make more money, so do first world companies if htey can get away with it, that why safety standards had to be invented, we just have no way to force chinese companies to follow them

Illumination Supply has Nitecore sysmax i4 on sale 51% off. I just got one a couple days ago you can’t go wrong with this one! It is one of the best. It will charge 4 batteries at a time. I have a 26650 & 18650 in it now

You need to measure current & voltage at the same time throughout the whole charge cycle to know what its doing.
Charging to 4.14V, then 4.15v after awhile doesn’t tell you its CC/CV….

Ending at 4.15v does not equal ‘works well’.
There are any number of ways to get to 4.15v. Some are dangerous.

Worth keeping , or should I continue with my plans to use it as a battery holder in my WIP compact test bench?

If it has a nice shell or adjustable slider I’d keep it as a charge cradle or tp4056 host.
