Nemo

This is going to be a long cleanup 6 hours was way to long to sleep. The snow is a solid 30 inches deep with drifts over 40, much deeper than my snow blower by can handle.

Nemo aftermath. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be

As a currently left-coast placed Easterner, I AM SOOOO JEALOUS!

Still snowing here, will be until later tonight, about 25cm down right now, 15-20 still to go apparently. Wind is starting to pick up, but the storm is loosing it’s intensity as it goes over the ocean.

That’s a very nice snow blower Glenn, and your house is gorgeous!!

Thanks Rick :) Talking about nice houses, dchomak's got a really nice house. and much deeper snow!

I couldn’t imagine all that snow!!! That’s crazy!!!

so i didnt realize that my loaner phone needs a memory card in it to take pics, so none from me :frowning:
about 20 mins of shoveling and i have about 1/20th of my driveway done… yay for procrastination on fixing my snow blower… may break down and get someone to plow, but i hate cleaning the gravel off my lawn and patching where the plow dug the lawn up…

I could really use a snow blower. :stuck_out_tongue:

I forgot what a royal pain the butt it is to shovel snow. Living in apartment complex, not even supposed to have to shovel it... took me an hour to clean the car, stairs for myself, and old neighbors, and a path to sidewalk. Conclusion: I'm tired, and out of shape.

Can't imagine how you guys with more snow are faring. Good luck and take it slow.

60 foot driveway with 3+ foot snow drifts.

3:53 pm and plow guy is still a no show. Looks like I'm going nowhere.

another 20 mins and one car almost dug out… man i need a smaller driveway. looking at the snow bank and drift at the end of my driveway (by the road), im not sure if my xterra is going to be able to get out until i shovel it…

Baby boom 9 months latter! ymmy… :open_mouth:

Had my eye for along time on of those Ariens…been so little winter here (other than the ‘dusting’ we got last night and this am, bit of wind too… why am I breathing hard, not what you think! Actually I am wheezing, too damn much snow shovelling!) hard to justify w all of life’s other needs…

But, I think you could dress that bad boy up a bit, handwarmers and some bright lights that would let you see your way down Rte 1 to where I live, next big storm…?

PS no energy to participate in “baby boom” left it all on the handle…!

I've had my Ariens for 8 years with no major problems. The only thing I had to do to it besides change the oil every season, is replace the rubber drive wheel last year. It was worn down and slipping pretty bad..

I have a Craftsman 30” 11HP from 2001 and it still runs fine. I had some issues with shearing auger bolts and even the drive shear bolts (apparently 11HP is quite a bit). After standard drive shear bolts, I finally decided to put in a stainless steel one. I would not run stainless in the auger; dangerous.

Oh, and as a pet peeve? Flyer delivery in a blizzard. Every Thursday night I get three pounds of flyers in a bag thrown on my driveway. Any other Friday morning this would be fine… but not when it’s buried under 15” of snow. Of course ‘Crafty’ gets into it and there’s paper bits flying everywhere. :expressionless:
By the time I recognize what’s going on and stop the auger it looks like Super Bowl Sunday on my driveway.
The other time it happened, the paper went right into the second stage; jammed that sucker solid. Took me an hour to dislodge it |(

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the wheel. Mine is starting to slip, especially when snow gets in there. Might have to see about getting a replacement.

Don't you just hate those flyers? BTW, I've never sheered the auger or drive bolts, knock wood. I guess I've been lucky. I do keep some in stock just in case. As far as the drive wheel, clean the metal disk with alcohol. I find that helps a lot assuming your drive wheel isn't worn down. I'm sure you already know this but check the engagement cable for excessive slack. That would definitely cause slippage

Yeah I’ve had issues with the drive cables too. The Craftsman’s engine (Briggs & Stratton) is a tank; the frame is a tank; the auger and gearbox are tanks; the cable and drive mechanics are finicky and seem to break and/or self-adjust over time. Of course those are critical items and render the whole unit useless until addressed. I think I’ve got it fixed up good now.
One thing I do like about mine; it allows one-hand operation. Most of the new ones do not have this ability with the handles being too far apart. I like this mostly for the ability to adjust the thrower angle and pitch while still driving/throwing.

On mine, the auger and the drive are right and left handle bar controls. To adjust the chute angle, you have to take your hand off the drive control to make chute adjustments with the crank. A bit of a pain in the butt, but I'm used to it..
