Does anyone know of a place in the US that sells something that can buck 12 volts down to 5 volts at around 50 watts minimum? Efficiency is not particularly important, also anywhere from 5-9 volts should work.
If you are looking for a finished board, this isn’t very useful information for you. But if you want to build up from the driver chip, the Linear LT3791 driver can take in 6-36V and put out Vin minus 2V at about 20A. It can be had for about $6 in single or small quantities. I think it is rated at 94% efficiency or thereabouts.

Not US but Mouser etc might do something similar:

That should work, unless there are other suggestions I'll go with that one.
A cheap computer PSU will provide plenty of 5V and 12V power. Why convert when you can have both for cheap.
he may be trying to run it off a 12v battery
Exactly. ;)
Battery Positive -> Big Diode -> Big Diode -> Big Diode -> Big Diode -> Big Diode -> Big Diode -> Big Diode -> Load -> Battery Negative

You will have to heatsink (or fan) the crap out of it to get the full 50W…
Not in US, but it is what you want.
I do not know the quality of these but 10A is very high and it is possible to heat up.
this one may be better, it has a good heatsink, and you can screw it to a metal on your car for better heat dissipation.
