Large Meteorite in Russia

Not sure if anyone else has been following this but it looks like a rather large meteorite crashed somewhere in the in the Urals region. Plenty of videos of it on youtube.

YouTube

I think I did the formatting right for those videos...

Also unconfirmed reports of cell service and internet being down, one place even said that the meteor was intercepted by a missile which caused fragmentation of it over a large area.

Here an article about it is.

And a picture of a factory that was destroyed.

That’s crazy! BTW, it’s a meteor until it hits the ground; then it is a meteorite. Now you know

Thanks relic38!

Fixed it, I always forget which way it is. ;)

Those vids are incredible. the one where you see the cloud then the windows blow out…. what a shockwave that think made!

Another two pictures of damage.

Sorry for another post, but some video of around that factory.

Quote from Russia Today.

According to unconfirmed reports, the meteorite was intercepted by an air defense unit at the Urzhumka settlement near Chelyabinsk. A missile salvo reportedly blew the meteorite to pieces at an altitude of 20 kilometers.

I'm still doubtful that happened but it is possible-ish. Here yet another picture of the factory is.

Bent window frames here.

That is bullshit!

Nope, it was intercepted by

Yeah by Bruce and Steve Buscemi (love this guy, he can easily play crazy roles).

Thank you Scaru for the heads up, I’ll check the news.

DA14 has just been announced here. Apparently no relation.

These are new good:

Wow! It looked quite real esp with all those videos and that flattened factory. Hope nobody was hurt. Could also have been space junk with all those old satellites in orbit up there! Wonder if there’s any fragments left to prove the actual thing that landed?

Did it actually ever hit the ground?

And who drives around with a video recorder going at all times in their car? Anyone here?

Space junk doesn’t fly that fast to cause this.
Believe that local Russians are already collecting fragments, will be very easy on the snow for the first few hours.

Judging from the pictures of the destroyed factory and from the news reporting several hundred injured people.. yes.

Dash cams are pretty much mandatory in Russia because of insurance fraud. There are lot of videos on youtube where people jump in front of a car to get some money.. or crash into each other and blame the other.. beat each other up in the middle of the street because of a crash.. and so on.

as i was reading, it made a 6m crater in the ground

some local Russians already sell fragments for about $17.
