Large Meteorite in Russia

some local Russians already sell fragments for about $17.

The injuries/damage is caused by broken glass/shock wave.

Pretty much everyone driving in russia, assuming they have an insurance.

Many companies expect video footage in suspicious cases.

Probably one of the best places to get such a good video coverage of this kind of event!

Just because of those dash cams.

@ NightCrawl & CheapThrills: I did not know that! Thanks for the info.

@Cheapthrills:

You’re right, another good place could be London because of all the cameras in public space.

@BetweenRides:

Search for ‘driving in russia’ on youtube, these videos are sick and almost unbelievable stuff happen on the streets of russia.

I saw the video of the “bright light” in the sky and had to think for a moment…… “is that one of our BLF members playing w/ his new 9X XML-U3? It’s hard not to be certain. The factory certainly looks like ”photon cannon” damage, notice the clean round opening in the wall. Only a tightly focused light beam will produce that, metorite strikes are ragged w/ scattered debris. I will now remove my tongue from my cheek…….

One of those videos has the day and the year wrong, know that guy is a accident scammer!

On another one, the overwhelming amount of ‘lumenescence’ is astonishing, seems to light up the whole neighborhood as it passes over - and I am sure tricks the light meter in the dash cam too.

Very interesting.

I didnt hear about that one. Thanks for the post and great pics scaru!

oh these looks like crashing jets :open_mouth:

Is that missile story is true ?

I find it hard to believe the Russians (or anyone else) can detect a meteor that size (small) entering the atmosphere at ~33,000 mph - with no warning - assess the threat - decide it is be should be destroyed - launch a missile - successfully intercept the meteor.

On the other hand…what do I know about air defense missiles…

I heard about that this morning on the way to work. I was hoping there would be video. Thanks for the links, Scaru!

I, too, was wondering why they’re are so many dash cams in Russia. Article here. Sure made for some amazing videos of the meteor.

Ill go with the bit about it being intercepted by a missile ,not just russia but the usa will have been tracking it,also the shockwave is just like a blast .not getting into a scientific argument just what i think

at least we know its not the same guy responsible for photoshopping (apparently) that new high end tech jet from Iran!

I would be out searching for pieces that’s for sure. Even if I found a huge one it would be hard to part with. But then again it would buy a lot of flashlights.

+1

Here's another video;

Rather small, but to me it's just incredible how bright it was.

JPL will offer live coverage of the big one’s close flyby at 17,000 miles at 11:25 a.m. PST.

Any final words in case the scientists are wrong?

Better make sure your flashlights are charged in case it impacts and creates a giant dust cloud, like the one that darkened the sun so much that all the dinosaurs kicked off.
