US - Defiant ArmorMax 3D Tactical Flashlight - 3D XML light $29.97 - GET BACK TO HD NOW!!!!

Did you have the # 852955.

They are probably in the "no home" section. It's a smaller display box, since there's only six lights in it. About 24x24x24 box.

I gave the guy in my store the number and he found it in the "no home" area. In my store it's in the tool section, on upper shelving, but it may be anywhere in other stores.

Yeah, I gave them the store SKU#. The guy wrote down my contact info, hopefully they’ll find them.

The title says it all, it weighs two pounds, four ounces with batteries.

The other posters aren’t blowing smoke, this thing is heavy and big. I bought it mainly as a curiosity because of the weight. Plus, I’m hoping there will be some great mod ideas. But at this weight and size, this behemoth will stay on the shelf 99.9% of the time. Unless, like others said, I need to use a light AND crack ice blocks in half or bash heads or drive in BIG nails. Or maybe some long-lost uncle leaves me a truck full of D batteries in his will.

Still light here in windy SoCal, but it appears floodier than the HD sooper thrower while hunting white walls. It sure is heavier. That’s for sure.

Also, they couldn’t find it, just like the other HD torches. Took ’em a half hour. Plus, I was all excited and got it home; threw the batteries in and and and ……… COMPLETELY DOA.

Fortunately, BLF has taught me well. Paper clip showed me that it works fine without the switch and tailcap. DMM showed me that the switch worked fine, with the tailcape off the light. Disassembly was fairly straightforward, and so was the problem. Switch contact was not in the spring correctly so when pressure was applied, it lost contact. Put it back together. STILL NOTHING! GRRRRR.

More fiddling and use of certain phrases and words that are not allowed to be printed in a family forum.

This problem was not so easily trouble-shooted. It appeared that the VERY tight-fitting end cap caused the O rings to roll out of place and block the contact (even with a liberal goop of nyogel). Will investigate more thoroughly when I have more time. In any case, WITH end-cap o rings = no work. WITHOUT o rings = work.

Summary: Seems like a well-made light and brightness is okay, but it is way too big and heavy for anything but emergency use (or using it to demo a concrete patio).

gonna try to order one for in-store pickup

Let them do the hunting for me

Did the price on these go up? Weren’t they around $23?

>>>>Did the price on these go up? Weren’t they around $23?

The others were $23. These are different and more money. But you can use these as a boat anchor if you need one. It’s that heavy.

Ahh, I see. Thanks

I went to Store #4025 and bought them all (Few locals wanted them)

Well, it's brighter than the 3C Thrower and I really don't notice much of a larger spot. It throws well. Now I've only tried at about 250 yards, but right now, I would favor the 3D over the 3C. That's in stock light form, no mods. It will be interesting to see the driver in this thing. Can't find out here at work, but I will at home.

If it weren't so darned heavy....

I was reading through the reviews of this light on the HD site.
One of the reviewers says, “The one feature it’s missing is a focus adjustment.”
Really? A testament to legacy lights, this feature is still engrained on consumer’s ‘flashlight feature’ checklist. Until the day arrives that people forget about focusing, Maglite will likely cater to it in order to stand out. Too bad. They should just leave that to LED Lenser and move on.

Besides, I can’t believe people don’t think of simply buying an additional, more floody flashlight
or getting creative with Saran Wrap and the rubber bumper cover that comes with the 3D Defiant.

Seems like this model has a seriously hefty heatsink.

Just got one of these from my local HD but they were still in the box on the over head shelf. A stock man was nice enough to help me look and get one out for me once we found them. 8) Now what to buy the wife so she doesn’t blow up!!! 0:)

Yeah, mine too. I went into the store, armed with the SKU# and they looked at me like a deer in the headlights. Finally, the aisle guy, got the ladder out, and there was a box of them on the top shelf, all taped shut. They brought it down, and I bought the whole box, minus one that the salesman wanted. They didn’t seem to know anything about them, however, the had bunchs of the Garry Bunk Defiant models.

2 Seconds Shutter, to show the tree.

4m

Down to 1 second shutter here You can really notice how much more spill the 3D is, but it's still brighter in the spot as the 3C is. At least to me it is.

5m

1 second shutter

Sorry, I don't have a stationary holder for the lights when I take photos. Handheld does not make each shot in the exact place as the last one.

What this proves is that the Depth of the reflector has little to do with the size of the spot. It is the diameter and profile of the reflector. The spot on the 3D is just about identical to the 3C and it is brighter. The 3D has more spill, due to the shallow reflector.

Now to Stipple the 3D and make it into a 1D.

That's it for tonight.

thanks O-L! i updated the OP with a hot link to your photos

I am picking mine up today… I bought it online and within 15 minutes HD called me saying they have secured one and its ready

Mines ready for in store pickup!

You might need a pick up truck! Preferrably with a lift gate! lol

Nice pics, OL! Seems to throw better AND have more spill than the 3C everyone was scrambling for. Nice!

mine too! im going in about 4 hours after work

if i could get my hands on a P bin sst-90 that would be ideal for this… i already have 4x c nimh i use in my vpt3 so i will test to see if they fit with minor modification

To me the 3C still outdoes the 3D on all counts. I would be leery of ‘handheld’ beamshots telling the whole story. No offence meant to anyone here doing so but IMO if you’re really going to compare light output, spill, throw, etc., the lights should be fixed and pointed exactly the same onto something immovable like a tripod or what have you. Hotspots for example at those distances just need a tiny bit of variance to throw perceptions off on how things are lit up. Much less spill and flood. IOW I wouldn’t jump to conclusions just quite yet.

The 3C’s larger reflector when all’s said and done still makes the difference. JMO.
