I have a cheap flashlight/ Lantern combo that is made by Garrity. I like that it switches to a lantern. I noticed that it has a 2 cell mag light type bulb in it. I was just wondering if I could swap this out for a Led bulb to make it brighter. It runs on 4 AA batteries. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecited.

yes they exist in a lot of variations from cheap to expensive. But I haven’t bought one yet because i have no light which is worth such an upgrade. But if i would see such a cheap like the walmart one i would buy it just for fun.

Its worked pretty good so far. The light is not real bright but will light up a bedroom for days.
Does it matter if I get a 3 volt or a 6 volt drop in? I see they have both for the 2 cell d lights.
4 AAA is 6Volts. That is too high for the 3 volt bulb.
So I should buy the 3 volt bulb?

this one for a retro flashlight.
It is not very bright but a good upgrade.
no if you have 4x1.5V in series than you have 6V and should buy the 6V bulb.

If you take your light apart and read what stands on your bulb you will see what you need

I was trying to do the exact same thing with my Garrity in early 2012. I abandoned the idea when, for some reason, the MagLED wouldn’t sit right in it. I finally sold it.
Yes I know what you mean. I tried my Terralux insert from my mag light in it and it would not fit, but the one that actually came with the mag light originally did fit. I think the insert was just a tad bit bigger around.

the light bulb in there now is a PR15 4.8v 0.5 amps. Any suggestions for a replacement led bulb for this?
Honest answer is ... there is nothing made by garity that is worth throwing money at ..certainly not 10$
Buy this for 16$ instead http://www.fasttech.com/products/1601/10002364/1195011 and you will take the Garity out back and shoot it dead .
Lots of us have old plastic lights that weren't that bad .. truth is the reflector is thing that will getcha .
i have about 5 dumb lanterns that basiclly can't be modded the beams are horrible with an led .. most of them are a lantern flashlight combo too .. Dorcy combo lantern . the worlds most un-moddable light
