Good deal - TrustFire TF-R2

I don't have an X9 but I'll do some beamshots tonight once I've fed myself.

Edit: I was going to do beamshots, but it has started to rain. At least that means no PITA adolescents doing the Trick or Treat thing - which is an import from across the Atlantic we could well do without. It used to be "guising" here, ToT is a new thing. I don't mind the little kids at all, but obnoxious teenagers expecting money are just a pain.

Don, did you ever get updated output numbers for this? Thanks. Great pics.

I too love the idea of a light which is not a P60 host but can use P60 pills. Old4570 is the only one I've seen address this on a functional level:

I need to get into something like that, just need to decide how.

Here are some numbers. Turns out that if I use a meter probe instead of the switch I get 900 lux more at the top end, giving me just over 700 lumens which is more like it.

The switch needs to come apart.

Light Battery
Trustfire TF-R2 (XM-L) High 18650
Trustfire TF-R2 (XM-L) Medium 18650
Trustfire TF-R2 (XM-L) Low 18650

Thanks Don,

Im trying to put this into perspective. You mentioned in a prior post that, "440 lumens from an XM-L does not impress me when I've measured better than 850 from the same dropin". In the post above, you mentioned that you get around 700 lumens if you bypass the switch in the TF-R2. Has something changed or is this not a good reflector design? Im trying to account for the missing 150 lumens that were produced by the much smaller P60 reflector. Im not trying to put you one the spot sir. Just trying to figure out if this is a worthy upgrade over the standard p60 reflector.

Id also appreciate hearing your thoughts about beam quality and focus with the XML.

You're doing it wrong.

The TrustFire TF-R2: IMO, still by far the best P60 host available. Thanks again Hrvoje!!

just traded mine off recently… you guys are making me want to get another one now…

Id only advise it if youve already got several drop-ins for it. Otherwise, any good C8 (or similar) will do the same thing for a lot less money. But if you’ve got drop-ins, this cant be beat.

I just put in a product request for these with Fasttech. Seems like a nice light.

Good Deal , I have never heard of one of these !! Found one at Alliexpress for $25.39

I don’t think they even make them anymore. I still miss my DBS :frowning:

These would be a great 'group buy' through Rey . Just the host no emitter around $15 maybe?

host and pill would be good. the p60 pill is just far enough off that i would prefer the original pill

if we got a group buy for under $20 with no emitter I would be in…

this thing is screaming for an xpe2 on copper pushed to 3a J)

I got the one Pulsar modded and I can say that it rocks in tube sox. It’s a very nice host and with a T6 driven with 2800mA it has a great flood and decent throw.

that was my first 18650 light too. glad your enjoying it

I paid $30 for mine, which came with a CW XRE 1.2A at the tail. Of course, that silly thing was instantly replaced with an XML 3A. The pill screws into the lights head, which is made of very thick aluminum and does a good job of heat sinking (better than a quality C8). If youre thinking about one, and have pills to swap in and out, buy it. You’ll never use a regular P60 host again and wonder why you ever did. Finish 8/10, design 8/10.

Also, if Hrvoje posts a deal or suggestion, its always been an extremely good one worth taking note of.

this is advice I think you gave along time ago ...and one thing I was smart enough to listen to ...

it caused me to buy lights like the Ultra-fire c-88

thanks Hrvoje

Hi,

I just ran across this thread. The TF-R2 sounds pretty good, so I was searching around, and it looks like it’s basically not available anymore? The only place I found it was on Amazon, from a seller, and it was $80+, from China:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00AZZRHB0/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

If the TF-R2 is no longer available, is there something newer and similar, i.e., a C8-style host with good cooling that can take a P60 drop-in?

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for reminding me… my GF snagged mine because she can run it in high mode continuously without overheating (XML 3 mode @3A). Looks like I might need to buy another!
