I was wondering if anyone could provide me some accurate measurements of the drop-in dimensions. Specifically I need:
1) The ID of the host where the drop in goes in.
2) The ID of the bottom of the brass pill. I need the diameter inside where the driver sits though (smaller than the diameter where the driver sits).
It depends on the model. I once made a piece of copper that was a snug fit in an L2 that would not go into an L2P at all. I’m sure that a heatsink made for an early L2 would not fit a newer L2 or vice-versa.
Isn’t it better to buy the host and then machine the things you want for it precisely?
I mean very precisely. All hosts are a bit different. Plus you know the factory tolerances in China
Make it a snug fit, that’s what I do with custom parts.
I don’t get it. You don’t have the tools to make parts but want the dimensions? If you’re going to wrap a drop-in to fit then why do you need the dimensions? BTW, Solarforce has looser dimensions than Surefire so anything that will fit a Solarforce will fit a Surefire but not vice-versa.
To answer your second question, it’s 17mm on the driver side and usually a bit over 16mm on the emitter side.
But there is a lip the driver sits on and the inside is less than 17. I wanted an estimate so I could get copper rounds as close to the diameter as possible.
I wanted dimensions so I could get things that are as close as possible, then fill the rest with foil. I don’t have the tools to get something larger and “machine” it to fit.
A 17mm driver will fit nicely. The lip is a little less than 2/10mm.
I usually grind a P60 pill down until it fits into the battery tube (Solarforce battery tubes are very long, shouldnt be a problem) and solder them to the copper heatsink.
