Advanced DIY Mode Rechargeable XTAR A01 Flashlight:

Can you include a battery, so I can give it as a gift?

At that price is a steal.

How much did you pay for it?

Add 20 to the promo price and switch the USD to € symbol.

It doesn't make sense that this rechargeable light--that comes will almost everything else--doesn't include a battery.

I does not make sense that you would pay twice the price just because you don't want to remove the battery to charge it.

An XP-G power Ultrafire 501 or 504 is about $16 and free shipping, and since you have to buy the battery anyway, why pay x2?

I'd rather have the battery chargeing where I can monitor it anyway...

is a rechageable XR-E with battery included for $18

If you don't see the difference between the XTAR and a random crap so-called Q5 (probably worse) noname flashlight with a fire hazard charger and an unprotected crap 18650 off ebay then the offer isn't for you anyway.

You're comparing an Ultrafire 501A with a quality IPX-8 Type III HA host with silver plated contacts? Really? Are you kidding me?

That the XTAR is only $12 more than the junky noname light makes the XTAR a fantastic offer.

Until today I had never heard of XTAR

But yes, I see that they sell the same light on ebay and want $69 for it, still without a battery. So I guess the OP must be a great deal.

Xtar is selling this rechargeable flashlight for such a good price without the batt.

you can just pop in your 18650 batt into it or just get a few couple of 2.6mAh 18700 sanyo batt from Xtar too. i believe Miles Cheng (sales manager) will give you a good price on their batt.

Wow!!! Thought I was on CPF for a second.

Me too.
Don’t worry troop, I didn’t know what an xtar was either.

I wonder if these have memory? I see they have several modes and it appears to be a reverse clicky.

somebody called Jake25 "over there" claims it's a reverse clicky and has mode memory:

http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?236476-Xtar-A01-SBFlashlights.-XPG-R5-15-Mode-Combinations-(Your-choice)-Rechargable!/page2

I have read about this light before, but completely forgot about it the second I saw the pricetag... but now, it is just at the threshold where I can risk buying it being hed up by customs (which isn't only more expensive but also takes ages).

HUGE plus for this light (in my opinion): not only does it have built in charging capabilities (which is at least nice to have), but you can customize the driver! There are solder tabs for each mode except High, and if you make the connection with a small blob of solder that mode is gone. This can be reversed by removing the solder. So I can get rid of the blinky modes without changing the driver.

Dang, I think I have to buy it

Oh c'mon guys:

Mode memory works, it's truly a nicely made flashlight. you can disable any mode you like by soldering a contact under the flashlight head. Reverse clicky and yes HA coted. If anythigg the box is a bit cheesy the rest is A+.

Oh... sorry Budgeteer, haven't read your review...

YEah it looks very nice indeed, sadly I'm rather short of cash at the moment.. bah!

From the two xtar lights in my custody just now - the name is worth a bit of extra money.

The lights are well-made and nice. Very nice. Both the Xtar lights living with me have spent a month sharing my pockets with keys, coins and the like. I can't see any damage to the anodising.

For me, they're worth the fairly small amount of extra money.

Speaking as someone who just had to explain PTSD and the appropriate therapeutic approach in less than 100 words.

Believe me, it can't be done.

What do you think guys, should I get this or the KD XM-L C8 smooth as my first 18650 light?

The C8 will be more of a thrower with a larger head on it, the XTAR looks like an expensive version of a P60 host.

Personally, I like the KD, but this one includes battery and charger.
