Modding the Defiant 3C and 3D lights with Maglite parts. Beam Shots in Post #32

Of course there's the thought that a UV filter would affect the light output, but I don't think a filter for the UV range should affect a neutral to white led and with the cheap filters, the coatings aren't all that much anyhow. Now an expensive one would have multi-coatings and the coating would be "noticeable", so it might affect the led. I just don't think the cheap ones will and I also think it's better than plastic, but I could be totally wrong. Besides, the UV range is something we can't see anyhow, so it's a mute point isn't it?

Thanks OL. I had a nice surprise when I got home. This thing is MASSIVE. It made my 2 x 26650 HD-2010 (which went pop when I turned it on to compare beams) look like my daughter. Tiny. Not sure what I will do as I like it the way it is. Keep up the good work.

Where did you get the reflector from? I haven’t been able to find anything of that size, but maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.

i wonder if this lens would work http://www.tmart.com/62mm-UV-Ultra-Violet-Filter-Lens-Protector_p94351.html

OL where did you get yours from??

use code s1213 on the link above and its 3.60

ah yes - i have one of those in my 3c (im the one who found them  )

the 3ds size is 62mm… i grabbed one of the ones off tmarts website for 3.60… lets see how it fits

The "D" Defiant is 64mm and the "C" Defiant is 62mm. I got mine for the "C" off ebay (a UV filter) and I got the 64mm from who was it? Phil? from ebay.

I don't remember the vendor on the 62mm, I just took the lowest price one with free shipping.

A lot of those UV filters aren’t even coated! They depend upon the UV absorption characteristics of the cheap glass for their UV filtering.

Also, more and more of the cheap ones are being built with the glass glued in… no retaining ring that can be unscrewed.

whoops… i guess well see if a 62mm lens fits :stuck_out_tongue:

i dont see why it wouldnt with an oring

I like the 3C tint better than the original. It's not near as harsh on the eyes. I also like the fact that it now has three modes, so it's not always running max.

The 3C is finished and now I will work on finishing the 3D.

That’s got wow out the wazoo!

Both lights are done. Comparison beam shots tonight!

Cool!

“03-20-13 Defiant ”D” is now finished.”

Wow! I did oversleep this morning… I wonder where those 18 days went?

3-20 is my birthday… Did i win the giveaway :stuck_out_tongue: jkjk

Tongue Out

I call dibs on his eyeballs… they are delicious!

Here's the comparison between the Defiant "C" and the Defiant "D". They are two different beasts. The C is a thrower, where the D is more of a flood light. The C has a 4.2 amp driver and a smooth reflector, where the D has a 3.5 amp driver with a Stippled reflector.

The shots are Mouse Overs. The C Defiant is Mouse out and the D Defiant is Mouse Over. The shots were taken simultaneously, so that the conditions would be the same.

The results? Well, the Defiant C runs away with throw distance. The beam is tight and carries more of a punch, but I prefer the Defiant D. I like the bright spill and I don't mind if it only gets out there for a couple hundred yards. Overall I would keep the D over the C, but of course, I will be selling both of them soon.

Thank you for the great beam shots. Both of those lights rock.
