[19-FEB-2013] Help choose three new lights for the BLF frontpage welcome!

It’s not great, compared to many of the other lights we talk about here… but it’s probably the best value for the price (usually sells at around $5 or $6 including shipping). It’s also a great gift for non-flashaholics since it can use regular AA batteries and will beat the pants off almost anything available at local retail stores for 10X the price.

On an Eneloop, it’ll probably get around 140 or 160 lumens on the wide setting and up to 10k lux on the narrow setting. Not bad for a single-AA compact $6 light. With a 14500 battery, it can get more like 240 lumens on wide and 15k lux on narrow, but runs the risk of overheating. Also, the quality and exact features vary quite a bit from unit to unit, and which one you get is often luck-of-the-draw.

I got ten and gave most of them away. Every recipient has been pretty pleased with it, especially the guy who was still using a big 2-D cell incandescent. The SK-68 also was the #1 product on Amazon for a while, in both flashlights and hand tools.

There are much better products out there… but not for $6 or less.

when is the voting over?

Looks like it’s over…

I took this picture of a SK68.

Certainly not the best but I will offer it up if you want to use it. :) I don't currently have a L2P or King though.

Thanks heaps for that information. I just wanted a cheap zoomie for the missus. Seems like at $8.70 I might have slightly overpaid, but oh well.
I’ll be running it off a 14500, so if it gets anything close to 240 lumen I’ll be very impressed.

if anyone is wondering about a sk68 clone im giving away two when i hit 1000 posts  jmpaul320's 1000 post giveaway! DARCANGEL & Orion are the winners!!

Me, I’m a bit conflicted about the L2P body as it isn’t all that budget. Not that it is expensive. I’d go for the L2M body instead though at the sort of resolution involved I doubt anyone would see the difference. Skyray King shots forthcoming. And that really, really isn’t budget. Unless you compare it to any other 3 XM-L light. And I have several

I think the choices reflect well on forum membership.

To be fair, I wont own an sk68 as I dislike zoomies, wont own a soloarforce l2* as I dislike p60’s (flash pilot rather eloquently underlined all the reasons I won’t, and since I’ve found a well built p60 sized diy host, size is not a factor) and probably wont own a king because the price of a good one from a trusted seller is too close to an sl3 and I prefer the sl3.

Still, the new banner should look good….

i hope you win a sk68 clone from my giveaway

I’ve not entered  really dont like ftt lights that show the die image. I also wont own an aspheric fir the same reason

its just as well… scaru is probably going to win both… that dudes on fire with winning free stuff lately

I’m pretty sure I saw it in another thread, but what is the P60-sized host you’re on about? It sounds to be right up my alley.

Here you go.

are the new pictures coming?

old lights still existing

:p

I was wondering about this too. A few days ago, I considered making my own new BLF logo and using a CSS override to display it.

Hate to be that guy, but this ^

Er, the winning lights were decided quite a while ago… SK-68, SRK, and the SF L2p. I still think the C8 should have been #3 (since the two C8 entries had a higher total vote than the L2p), but it was a close call between P60 host and C8 anyway.

And a year and a half later, the three (or four) lights chosen still seem like they do a good job representing the spirit of BLF. They are iconic budget lights, and thus a good choice for our, uh, icons.

I’m a Protestant, and I don’t believe in icons
