You know what? I think you're right. I thought I got the specs from Manafont. (not blaming them, the mistake is mine)
I'll make the change. Thanks, troop!

After reading it again, I now remember not being able to find the max voltage. However, I did use it for about 15 minutes with 2 x CR123. Without knowing, it's better not to say. Glad you like the light.
The reflector rests on that little lip around the large end. It seems to lift it up just enough so it doesn't touch the foamy stuff, dielectric or whatever it's called. (looks like dielectric) The reflector does not touch on mine.
Original Products still there although the price has dropped slightly. Remember we ordered the Silver C8 Q5, but they substituted the Black with R5 emitter.
Last night when I looked, there were no R5 Palight C8s listed, just Q5 and a few others over $100. I bought this light on Squidboy's recommendation and like Between said, we originally ordered the silver version. Jim e-mailed offering the black instead of waiting. My guess is that because it is a great light for the money (my opinion notwithstanding) and popular, it will be available again at some point. Jim might (probably) knows more.
This Ultrafire C8 R5 looks very similar to the palight http://www.shenzhen-wholesale.com/ultrafire-c8-cree-r5-led-aluminum-flashlight_sku1534.html?cPath=1_20&zenid=so3lvtgll9e96bt54ag7l44qj0
Since I can now measure amps I used this opportunity to revisit the Palight. As I first reported, "the Palight C8 (XP-G/R5 version) is no slouch." Not only is it not a slouch, it is a superb performer and although I take back nothing I said, I must admit that I may have understated some of this flashlight's capabilities.
Tonight while taking out the trash, I shined the Palight on a palm tree about a block away. This bad boy lit up the top of that tree so bright that I felt it would be disingenuous to this flashlight if I did not report its incredible performance. This is one hell of a bright torch and clear proof that XP-G lights can run with the big dogs. I'm still not a fan of the 5-mode/flashy board but I can say with no reservation that at $17, the Palight C8 (R5) has to be one of the top flashlight bargains of all time. Has it worked its way up the Foy-favorite-o-meter?
Glad you added to this thread. It is still my favorite light, and a fantastic thrower.
A good XM-L with a smooth reflector throws a wider hotspot, but the hotspot on the XP-G Palight is still brighter and throws farther.
Foy, what kind of draw did you get at the back of the light? I'd like to test mine and see if I'm getting the same results as you with my Harbor Freight MM. I'm getting 2.3A on high.
Now just think; what if we could get the P8 with a decent XM-L that pulled, say 2.5A and was a good match for its smooth reflector. Wow... but so far the XM-L's I've seen with SMO reflector don't work as well, I think the emitter is too big and the beam gets too diffused before it ever leaves the reflector.
I think the beam shape is what makes the P8 such a strong light. It has a very well defined hotspot and still gets good spill.
I updated the specs with my new readings. 1.60 on high was the highest on my cheapo $40 Extech DMM. .50 on medium and .06 on low. That's still, probably over 400 lumens on high if I'm reading the Cree chart right and yes, I would love to see what this guy could do if it were pushed a little.
