It looks like scratch,but it's only visible from specific angle(probably reflector was scratched before final coat).

Short version:

L2 vs. Ultrafire WF-800L(high quality C8):

With 2 cells:

L2 vs SRK:

Lux readings after 30 sec(@8meters,converted to 1m):

wf-800l : 23,3 klux

L2 : 51.4 klux (54 klux at turn on)

L2 tailcap current readings with 2 NCRBs (multiplied by 2):

Low:0.11A

Med:1.23A

High:2.5-2.6A

Pros:

-big head made from solid piece of aluminum and high fin surface area

-61x50mm reflector and AR coated glass

-1 or 2 18650 or 26650 cells

-high quality

-cool looking,especially short version,looks powerful

-more than 50 klux stock

-best thrower for that price

Cons:

-underdriven led,this thing deserves better driver with 3.5Amps stock

-few really small defects

-medium is too high

-plastic tubes for 18650s are too short( they rattle)

Coclusion:

Amazing thrower for <50$,very easy for upgrading,it's comparable with SRK in terms of price/performance .

I don’t see myself spending $50+ for a light, but this one is mighty tempting. The AR lens looks absolutely nice, and the whole assembly seem to be very good quality.

Few light actually uses screw clamping for the emitter, which in my opinion is far superior than slapping a gob of fujik. Not to mention easy emitter swap.

Probably will have to try the $15 version… these convoys are really getting to me :slight_smile:

I’m noticing a trend in Convoy build quality. This one is really nice, but redundant in my collection. The M1 is on my radar. I think I’ll grab one before the next batch arrives.
I have a funny feeling the quality will not remain consistent from batch to batch. An unfortunate side-effect of something becoming popular; cutting corners to maximize profits.

Thanks for the review… I have been after an image of it in single 26650 configuration.

What LED bin / tint did you get (T6 3d, U2 1A etc…)? That might explain why the lux reading is not quite as high as expected.

Also: can you please measure the driver board diameters? I have one on the way and need to find a high current 2x26650 driver… any info you can give me is appreciated.

Additional info:

LED: xm-l U2-1B

Spring board : 21,5x1.6mm

Driver board diameter: 18.5mm

Hole for diver: about 20x9mm(pretty tight)

Driver(LD-29) is regulated and without pwm on any mode.

Current and voltage measurements *ON LED*:

Driver has 25mohm sense resistor in series with led,so current measurement is easy(measuring voltage drop across resistor).

2 cells(NCRBs@4.1V):

Mode Voltage(V) Current(A)

Low 2.70 0.128

Med 3.01 1.32

High 3.13 2.55

1 cell(NCRB@4.1V):

Mode Voltage(V) Current(A)

Low 2.69 0.128

Med 2.98 1.28

High 3.11 2.53

Converting to % that's 5% 51% 100%,exactly as advertised,but current on high isn't 2.8A.

This means this light would be over 60 klux at turn on and led@3A.

I also noticed that mosfet runs hot on high(uncomfortable to touch).

Voltage at 2.55A looks low for U2 bin.It dropped only for a few (<10) milivolts after 2-3 minutes on high,that should mean excellent thermal conductance.

Any thoughts on what this thing would do with a xp-g2 on a 20mm sinkpad driven at ~2.8a??

Heres a link to match's test of an XP-G2 on copper. 2.8 is going to be a little to much. I did do a mod awhile ago with an XP-G2 at 2.8 amps but I reckon I had a 1 in 1000 Led as it threw like 10 men. Another I drove slightly less was a real shocker. I have had good results running 2.2 amps. Have fun with the mod. Cheers.

Hmm… I do have a couple of spare XP-G2s sitting around doing nothing, and quite a few SinkPads en-route.

I guess that sorts it… going to have to try this thing with a XP-G2 on copper with the original driver, worst case I cook $5 worth of LED.

If a XM-L2 on copper can take 6 amps (and then some) I see no reason a XP-G2 wont be able to take close to 3 amps…. + there is always median or low mode. :wink:
