7dayshop NiMH

I wouldn’t recommend them, there are tests online somewhere and the variability is massive. The capacity is generally less than claimed and the self-disacharge is higher than eneloops.

I wouldn’t go with the XXs but just the basic eneloops, they have a bit less capacity but are rated for 3x as many cycles, meaning they are probably more robust in general. The Panasonic (Evolta I think) LSD ni-mhs are good too if you can find them for a similar/lower price.

Thanks, Redforest. For the price I expected they’d be rebranded but I’d rather pay a little more for some consistency.

The ‘normal’, non-LSD niMh self-discharges an average of 1% a day. So your choice will be dependent on how much you use your torch in an average length of time. In my case, I’m a very casual user so an LSD is a must for me. If you go for an AA LSD, go with standard Eneloop. I have both the Eneloop and the Imedion LSDs and the Eneloops are much more consistent, and easily exceeds its minimum rating.

Imedion 2400mAh low self-discharge premium cells.

Hard to beat the quality and performance on these.

I got a pack of white Eneloops from Amazon.

iCell media are a good source. When I clicked your link I noticed I’d bought these a year ago, and since then I’ve had a 4x 4 AA pack of eneloops at a great price (about £18, I seem to recall - a deal long since gone). I recently bought 4xAAA eneloops from them, which never arrived - when I told them after a couple of weeks they sent a new packet. Still haven’t seen the first packet.

Oh, and 7Dayshop are, like iCell, based in the Channel Islands, although the tax advantages in the form of no VAT to UK have been scuppered since last year.

Thanks, Woody. That’s good to know!

Just wanted to bump this as I’m still waiting for the Eneloops, apparently dispatched on the 26th. :frowning: Did you have to wait a long time for them, Woody?

Well, I’d say you should have them by now. I never did receive the first shipment, but when I emailed to tell them they hadn’t arrived, they immediately re-sent another set of cells. They came in 3 or 4 days - so drop them an email.

They use Deutsche Post from the Channel Islands, presumably because it’s cheaper than Royal Mail.

BTW, 7Dayshop no longer ships lithium cells to the UK by Royal Mail. Not that they were that competitive.

Thank you, Woody. I will send them an email. I’ve received things from China already, in the same time. :open_mouth:

Yeah, that’s what got me wondering - Fasttech stuff has been arriving in 8/9 days, so I was a bit concerned that the eneloops took so long. Never did get the first lot, so not sure what’s going on - the route via Frankfurt isn’t so clever.

They arrived this morning! I planned to write to them today too. They do weigh a bit.

Good to hear that you got them OK, and didn’t have to go through the pain of getting another batch sent out - took a long time though.

Just in case anyone is interested I have just made this post.

Marc.

If you can find the Camelion 2100mAh LSDs or the Panasonic evolta ones for less than Eneloops I’d buy them, they hold their charge nicely. Not sure about their high current (5+ amps) performance as I have no means of testing this. Eneloops are supposed to be good up to 8 amps without the voltage falling off a cliff.

Hi Don,

I bought some evolta’s about six months ago. I love them, but they do seem to have a slightly lower voltage after a few weeks off the charger compared to the Sanyo’s. However Evolta’s seem to have better wrappers than the eneloop’s, a big plus for me. My sons don’t take the same care taking them when taking them out of their toys. But the Panasonic’s seem to hold up better.

Marc.

Thanks, Don. I couldn’t find any Camelion but I did find Panasonic Evolta, and thought I’d found a bargain until I realised they use the same name for their alkalines!!

I must say I do like the striking “eco” styling of their rechargeables. I wonder how they will rebrand eneloops for worldwide distribution.

They have already re-branded them!

Marc.

And IMO, not in a good way. The Eneloop branding made for the most elegant cells on the market. I liked the Sanyo look and the more prominent Panasonic branding is a very, very bad idea IMO. But nobody would pay me more than a cent a month for my design skills.

I like simple and austere.

Most of Asia doesn’t.

I’ll pay a bit more for better design. But it does help that Eneloops are just about the best NiMH cells out there - there may be better, but I’ve no idea what they are.

If Panasonic demean the Eneloop brand, that’ll be a sad day. I don’t care who makes them (unless it’s BTY who make garbage) as long as they perform like they always have. The day they don’t I’ll replace dead Eneloops (<90% nominal capacity) with whatever is better. I have more than enough NiMH AAs so it won’t be any time soon.

I love the simple look of the eneloops, and the Rouge and Disney sets look great too. As I speculated in ChibiM’s thread, perhaps the rebranding is to appeal to a wider audience who are familiar wth the name.

I do wonder, will they stop their Evolta line here and have the plain Panasonic logo eneloop instead? Or maybe they will try some new eco-style design.
