10 18650s at HD for $22?

Did it have them marked online as in store? Neither of my local hds have them marked as in stock online

Website says Item not sold at store. but the home depot inventory checker shows they had some near me Checker SKU: 342082

I got 3 for now and the markings on the case show they were assemble on 2011 Week 52 . The cells are Sanyo 18650W2

>>>>>Did it have them marked online as in store?

No, they were on a clearance shelf in garden by the string trimmers, which is what the pack is for. I have the cells out and am looking them up now. TEN bright and shiny Sanyos. All 3.60-3.65 volts.

I do have to say that this pack was the hairiest one I have disaasembled and I have taken apart quite a few at this point. Definitely NOT for the timid.

The cells are stacked neg pole to positive in the cage. You MUST be extremely careful when stripping off the contact tabs. I won’t say I was sweating bullets, but there were a couple minor puckers. And one minor shower of sparks. Really. I slipped.

To remove them from the cage, you must pull off the tabs, which is extremely difficult to do without contacting the opposite pole in the next cell row. Hard to explain, but you will see it in person if you decide to do the deed.

Now to see what these are. I assume they are 1500 mah. Back in a bit.

Where did you see the dates and the cell type on the case? No dates or cell type on my case. Would have saved me all this aggravation!

Ok, I guess I'm heading out to HD tonight. :P And guys, please don't post in the slickdeals thread so I can get some. :)

Oh I see …. On the battery case, not the pack itself. yup 18650w2.

Found one. Top shelf burried with a bunch on random stuff lol. Guy had to get a ladder to get it.
Yup on sale. $23.14 after tax. Only shows 1/4 full though…

I didnt separate the cells yet but on the top of the case near where it says positive and negative is a stamp mark that says 2011 52-ys and 2011 44-ys

1500 mah as suspected. Gonna dremel off the burrs and charge em up and see how they do. Never had new 1500s before. The used 1500 sonys and Samsungs seemed to work pretty good in the lights I tried, but I never really did any scientific load tests.

However, I DID run some in my test flashlight and ended up with 3.80-3.90 volts in the cell after 30 minutes, which is pretty much what I end up with for 2600s. Someone with more li-ion-load knowledge than me will have to chime in on whether these are really comparable to a “normal” 2600.

Mine was also 1/4 charge on the little led meter on the pack. All cells were 3.6-3.65 as I said.

What will be great in a couple years: The new 2600 mah tool packs will start going on sale and showing up in recycle bins. Those will be a treasure trove!

Off to dremel these.

Should be one of the few BLF rules.

Are they non-protected cells?

So are these worth getting? Really only 1500mAh capacity?

-Garry

mines marked 2012 01-YS
are these the cells inside it? AW IMR 1600mAh v Efest IMR 1500mAh v Sanyo UR18650W2
i see what you mean about being a lil hairy disassembling these… lol

>>>>>are these the cells inside it? AW IMR 1600mAh v Efest IMR 1500mAh v Sanyo UR18650W2
.
It appears to be the Sanyo with the pink ring to the right. There is the possibility that some packs will have different cells. Not likely I would think, but possible. I have seen computer battery packs: same model, different batteries.

>>>>>Are they non-protected cells?

Yes, almost all pack pulls will be unprotected cells.

If anyone sees a bunch and snaps up an extra I would be interested in buying it. :)

How much do these cells cost loose? I’d hate to find out they are only $2-3 a piece lol
Red cells pink rings here… This black holder is going to be a pain to get apart. Or is there a trick?

Only one at mine… I was going to snatch 2 for that reason, but couldn’t

>>>>>If anyone sees a bunch and snaps up an extra I would be interested in buying it.

Scaru, I would have mailed one to you, but I just went back and the other two, they be gone now. Sorry.

Guy I talked with in garden dept said some guy came right in after me and bought the other two.

Another BLFer living very close to me where I’m staying in the OC, Calif.? Probably not. Probably someone who saw it on fatwallet. Fat wallet people buy a lot of these sale items and resell em on flea bay.

So we are not the only ones who know about it, so if you want one, might be best to grab one or two. You can always return it to HD months after you buy it.

As for using these in lights? I have NOT used the Sanyo tool 1500 mah cells. I have used the Sony and Samsung ones, which seem to work on par with “normal” 2600 cells, BUT YMMV. I did NOT do scientific comparison tests.

Has anyone done any real tests on any 1500-mah tool cells? Am I the only one on BLF who has used them? That’s hard to believe.

>>>>>This black holder is going to be a pain to get apart. Or is there a trick?

Hahahahaha. I was about to pull my hair out on that one also. There are hidden screws in the wells between the cells. Normal phillips head.
