The first 4 (I put in the charger this morning) are now fully charged. I put one in my Olight i6 and I can't tell a difference in the brightness between it and my "Panasonic Protected NCR18650A 3100mAh 3.7V" Battery.
For some of my work, I need Torx screw drivers. They came in really handy today. It's unfortunate that other people have had difficulty removing these cells, I found it quite easy thanks to the torx drivers.
If I were to do it again, I would, however, wrap my pliers in tape before trying to remove the terminals (I got some sparks).
I don’t know waht is the most disconcerting, the sparks shooting like little comets 5 feet from the batteries OR the LOUD snap crackle and pop arc-welding noises that accompany the sparks. You wouldn’t think 3.6 volts would even be capable of producing a spark.
Then again, an electrician friend and I were troubleshooting a short in my house wiring. He went to cut through Romex coming directly from the pole — so no circuit breakers. Last thing I heard him say was: “You turned off the power right?”
Then he disappeared with a thunderclap inside a brighter-than-god glowing purple orb of plasma, like a mini-sun or magnesium on fire, like three feet in diameter.
No, Rick, I did NOT shut off the power. You never asked.
I honestly thought he was dead, but the pulsing orb disappeared in a second and there was Rick’s face, with singed eyebrows and hair. It would be months before any grew back on his arms.
“heh heh oops” he said.
I had NO idea that 120-volts could produce such an intense effect! I do now.
Still have the wire cutters he used up in Death Valley somewhere. Pretty much melted the cutter part. Handles were very well insulated. Probably what saved his life.
But the day wasn’t over yet …. He went on to do several “atomic situps,” which involve unintentionally grabbing a live 120 circuit while lying down. BOY did he ever sit up fast, hence the “atomic situp” description.
Wasn’t one of his best days. He STILL blames the melted cutters on me for not shutting off the juice. :–0
There are 2 screws, down in between the batteries holding the 2 pieces of plastic together. Removing them (and removing the metal 'leads' attached to the batteries), makes disassemble quite easy.
If you look at it from the side where you see the negative and positive terminals, there are several recessed areas… Two of them have regular Phillips head screws holding the two halves together.
I am saving the two halves for battery stands. I’ll have two seperate 10x18650 “stands”
I have some Black & Decker tools that use them, and will gladly trade your pack in exchange for 10 brand new high power cells of your choice (even CGR18650CH’s). I have quite a number of new CGR18650CH’s on hand, but can also get most other high power cells from Samsung or Sanyo for example. Or I’d also trade other flashlight stuff that I sell for one or more of these packs. PM ME!
You willing to take all you can get? I’d rather not take a trip to auburn if not neccisary. Don’t even know if they have any. But I’ll find out for sure if we can make a deal. Can you get Panasonic’s?
Yes I will take as many as I can get. I’m offering people up to $60 worth at edcplus.com or 10x Panasonic CGR18650CH’s. Or I can get other cells like Panny 3400’s etc.
Several hundred amps available from the circuit, I would think. Fuses are a good thing.
Another thing to bear in mind if anyone’s poking around in their household wiring with cheap five dollar meters - they don’t usually have much in the way of protection, internally. It’s not unknown for professional sparkies to use cheap sheet meters and blow themselves up when poking around a main distribution board.
>>>>>And I just happen to have a good use for these packs for my B&D Tools.
I am not going to go back through all the threads and look up where I saw this, but I +DEFINITELY+ saw that this BD power pack is very limited in its use for BD tools. I was looking up trying to find what cells were in this pack and I saw several threads where people wanted to use this pack for X tool or X thingamabob, and they were told it would not work. If you’re after these for a specific use, you no doubt have all this covered and have checked what you can use these packs for, but its use did seem to be pretty limited.
I also remember the HD guys telling me it only works in BD string trimmers and that’s why they have been sitting on the shelf for next to forever at 75% off. But they were HD guys after all, so I have NO idea how accurate that statement was/is.
Quick Google look-see shows it compatible with the LST136 string trimmer, LHT2436 hedge trimmer and LSW36 sweeper vac —— and nothing else I could find. But then — like I said — I did not do anything even remotely resembling a thorough search.
Yep. I have a string trimmer and its awesome. I also have a 20v B&D Blower, but will get a 36v soon. They are great tools. And yea right now those 3 tools are the only ones I know of that use the 36v packs. Probably in the future there will be 36v drills and other yard related tools (chainsaw perhaps?). I have quite a few B&D 20v tools as well, they are great. After all B&D owns Dewalt and Porter Cable, so they make some pretty nice stuff. In fact there are many porter cable tools that are simply rebranded B&D’s.
Good to hear that they are performing well. Also I’m curious what the pack date is on these. It should have 2011 or 2012 stamped on the black top of the pack.
