Personally for a mid range light like this I think NW - EA4W is the better option. Most people I know also prefer NW, but it really is a matter of personal preference.
I find that the clarity, and ability to discern more details, with a NW tint, outweigh the few extra lumens you get with a cool white emmiter. Cool white throwers do produce a nicer looking beam in fog... but if you're after a beam, you'll be better off with a laser.
I went NW, which is still well above 5200k I would say. Much cooler than a 3C emitter. Also, the output should be the same for both EA4 and EA4W; both use a U2 emitter.
Thanks for the reassurances. I was torn between either this or the King on which to get first, and this one seems much more practical for the time being. Plus I’d have to add another $15 to $20 onto the price of the King to account for batteries.
