confusing (to me): new driver@intl-outdoor: Nanjg 105c with wonderful modes

This is the only driver I’ve seen with beacon mode as the only blinky amongst the normal modes. Awesome for a dive light. Got to get some.

1st Star : 2% – 25% 100% (Default)
60mA 750mA 3040mA
.
.
2nd Star : 5% – 30% – 100% – Strobe (10Hz) – Beacon (cycle: 2Hz blink, 4seconds light off)
150mA 900mA 3040mA ————
.
.
3rd Star : 15% – 100%
450mA 3040mA
.
.
4th Star : 20mA – 2% –25% –100%
20mA 60mA 750mA 3040mA
.
.
BUT I need……
3-5mA 30-50mA 300-500mA 1000-1500mA and 3040mA

The original driver on on of my Crelant V9 had one of the most annoying whines possible (so loud that everyone in the room could hear it) and it was not a 7135 based driver, eve so the build was hard core). I changed it to one of my old Nanjg 150C drivers and I basically re-flowed the driver on the brass pill and the driver still whines.

All my EDC, Convoy flashlights whine intensely.

But let's be honest, with age the higher frequencies are simply inaudible, especially for men.

Truer words have not been spoken. Try talking to a woman thats as deaf as yourself (my wife) and the quickest argument starts as you do not hear properly what each other had said.

POK, 2% is 60mA like you wrote in the 4th line

Pok: You could get a NANJG105C 3.04A with custom firmware, so you can have all the modes you want…

As most know. The whine is mostly on medium.
If you cant hear it on low, take it up to your ear.

I only use NANJG105C “programmed” to high/low. Cant stand medium.
Despite that I do have a typical 2-group NANJG105C in one of my flashlights, just tried to improve the ground, tested it on low and medium afterwards but still same whine. I tested the pill (with emitter and driver) outside a flashlight too. It whines either way. I have earlier used drivers with PWM boards directly to power supply without pill or anything. Still whine…

Id guess the ability to hear the whine is a combination of age and how sensible you are to the frequency.

The best 17mm driver I have is the one that came with one a P60 cooper drop-in intl-outdoor sold a coupe of months ago. Not available now. Its nicely regulated, have nice modes (100/28/1) and no whine. No components on the spring side of the board either. Low voltage protection/warning and high temperature warning. (The high temperature warning is not that useful though, because it does not lower the mode/output)

There are many drivers out there with PWM noise. I try to avoid them as good as I can.
I Just ordered one of these qlite from inl-outdoor though. Need to test it. Its probably the best 8x7135 board out there considering modes/features/price.
If there is no whine, I will have to order more! It could easily become my favorite driver.
Still hoping something good come can out of the lightmalls custom BLF 4A boost driver…

The whine comes from the switch. Hold the tailcap up to your ear and lightly press the button, not enough to turn off or switch modes, and you can hear the whine change according to thumb pressure. Usually means you need a new (or better) switch.

I accidentally flashed 101-AK-A1 with improper fuses which caused CPU frequency and thus pwm frequency to change (increase). Driver was totally quiet at 40/340/1000 mA.

Funny to hear. Depending on the contact the sound changes. I could get some funny noises when trying out SOS with a half pressed switch. No doubt worse contact leads to more noise.
But as I said. The whine is still there without the switch. Driver board only with power supply, complete pill+battery (no switch or body) or assembled light with a wire on the tail instead of tailcap/switch.

That’s why I recently started using 18kHz as PWM frequency…

Could poorly grounded chips be the cause of whine?

Is that done only by changing CPU freq. to 9.6 MHz ?

Now, why Im I so happy?

Three nice hosts, cooper sinkpads and some nice tint XM-Ls?

Nope, not it. The OEM D4 (aka Convoy M1) does not have a driver on that picture…

But now it does… Whats on the backside of that pill?

Ahh… just a typical nanjg 105C…

Nope… Not a typical one… Its the Qlite Nanjg 105C!!! … Arrived today, after only 10 days (new intl-outdoor record for me)!

Now, why so happy??
Because silence!!!
There is no noise, no whine!!! Finally!!!
And yeah… The modes are sweet… I have only used it in default mode so far, which suits me perfectly…
Did a say its silent!!??

Off to intl-outdoor. Need to get more of these lovely drivers!!

Dang was hoping you had some tailcap measurements from the 4 mode setup! Thanks for the info though.

Thanks.

Looking forward to getting some too for the silence, I simply got fed up with those noises. I even reflowed one of the regular 105C drivers in a brass pill (so the ground connection is rock solid) and it still whines.

@chiefinspectorfinch: No, I did that by changing the PWM mode.

@RaceR86: What’s the light on the right?

fiddles around for a short time…

Ohh, 4 modes, these are nice based on first impression:)

Based on my readings that equals:

Changed setting on multimeter:

My DMM reads: 7,22 on that setting when checking the moonlight mode.
(take it with a pinch of salt)

So thats 0,00722A??

Im not used to moonlight, but for me, its really usable. Could be too high for low low moonlight lovers. But I have no experience with moonlight so what do I know… :stuck_out_tongue:
Its not that much difference from moonlight to low…

N-light XT-50
Okay, it cant compare with the others in quality. And mine had some scratches on the body. But a decent XM-L zoom light… Quite short, and okay heat sinking (for a zoom light). It ruined the 4000k tint… It got a bit cool. Not a huge surprise surprise though…
These hosts are a great example that you get what you pay for. Not only in size but also in quality. (cheapest on right side)

Yes!

is the memory the same as the 105c? as in it stays in the same mode after its on for a couple secs then turned off, or comes back on in the mode you turned it off in after a couple seconds of being off?
