confusing (to me): new driver@intl-outdoor: Nanjg 105c with wonderful modes

That’s why I recently started using 18kHz as PWM frequency…

Could poorly grounded chips be the cause of whine?

Is that done only by changing CPU freq. to 9.6 MHz ?

Now, why Im I so happy?

Three nice hosts, cooper sinkpads and some nice tint XM-Ls?

Nope, not it. The OEM D4 (aka Convoy M1) does not have a driver on that picture…

But now it does… Whats on the backside of that pill?

Ahh… just a typical nanjg 105C…

Nope… Not a typical one… Its the Qlite Nanjg 105C!!! … Arrived today, after only 10 days (new intl-outdoor record for me)!

Now, why so happy??
Because silence!!!
There is no noise, no whine!!! Finally!!!
And yeah… The modes are sweet… I have only used it in default mode so far, which suits me perfectly…
Did a say its silent!!??

Off to intl-outdoor. Need to get more of these lovely drivers!!

Dang was hoping you had some tailcap measurements from the 4 mode setup! Thanks for the info though.

Thanks.

Looking forward to getting some too for the silence, I simply got fed up with those noises. I even reflowed one of the regular 105C drivers in a brass pill (so the ground connection is rock solid) and it still whines.

@chiefinspectorfinch: No, I did that by changing the PWM mode.

@RaceR86: What’s the light on the right?

fiddles around for a short time…

Ohh, 4 modes, these are nice based on first impression:)
Tailcap measurements with AW 2600, protected @ 3,9 volts.

0,01
0,05
0,8
2,91

Double check with NCR18650B 3400@ 4V (from intl-outdoor)
0,01
0,05
0,8
2,93

Based on my readings that equals:

“moon light”
1,7%
27%
100%

Changed setting on multimeter:

My DMM reads: 7,22 on that setting when checking the moonlight mode.
(take it with a pinch of salt)

So thats 0,00722A??

Im not used to moonlight, but for me, its really usable. Could be too high for low low moonlight lovers. But I have no experience with moonlight so what do I know… :stuck_out_tongue:
Its not that much difference from moonlight to low…

N-light XT-50
Okay, it cant compare with the others in quality. And mine had some scratches on the body. But a decent XM-L zoom light… Quite short, and okay heat sinking (for a zoom light). It ruined the 4000k tint… It got a bit cool. Not a huge surprise surprise though…
These hosts are a great example that you get what you pay for. Not only in size but also in quality. (cheapest on right side)

Yes!

is the memory the same as the 105c? as in it stays in the same mode after its on for a couple secs then turned off, or comes back on in the mode you turned it off in after a couple seconds of being off?

@chiefinspectorfinch: No, I did that by changing the PWM mode.

If I understand correctly that should mean that instead phase correct pwm mode, fast pwm mode is used ?

I will get some soon and take some measurements with some non budget equipment.

@chiefinspectorfinch: Yes :slight_smile:

Great news, now looking forward to receiving mine more than ever! Thanks for the info!

Seems to behave as a 105C to me. Memorize a mode after about 2 sec on it that mode.

I take all measurements with a pinch of salt… Even my own!
I advise people to take my measurements with a pinch of salt too.
There are many variables.

I can use three different DMM, different wires, and get quite different results… (borrowed two from my brother)

Low,medium high are quite simular when I compare tailcap readings (slightly lower readings on some DMMs ).
Moonlight. I wont go out with any more numbers, because of the different readings.

I have now used the light/driver more subjectively. Bathroom visit in middle of night. And also a walk out in the dark.
And I can tell that I would have prefer the moonlight to be lower. As a “piss light” (something I dont need or use normally) its a bit too bright in my opinion. If im going to use moonlight indirectly (lighting up behind me). I can just use low indirectly instead. Id rather use low inderectly instead of moonlight directly.

For outdoor use, the difference between low and moonlight is not that much. If someone gave me my light and they had put it on moonlight or low I would not have been able to tell which mode it was in with good certainty. But if I wanted low output I would prefer low over moonlight.
So for my future lights with this driver, I think I will limit the modes to 3 (default). I prefer less modes.
Ill keep this one as it is now though. Ill see if it will grow on me…

Anyone have an answer to djozz’s original question…? Specifying 20mA out seems pretty impossible, without measuring across a shunt, with the ADC onboard the AVR.

My guess is that they adjusted the pwm for an average of 20mA out, using common LEDs etc…

Does anyone have a schematic for this driver (also, for the AK-47 or AK-101)?

They just put an Ampmeter there and measured 20mA. It’s PWM, the hardware can’t do anything more sophisticated.

Thanks for the clear answer

I can confirm that this feature works as advertised:

damn you ppl :D, I just ordered one to, along with some XM-L2 emitters
