bored maglite C-cell IMR-26650

Any try to bore a Maglite C-cell for the IMR-s6650? what tools do you need? drill? ??

Drill press and brake hone of the right size.

Or a much steadier hand than I have. Brake hone tools are traditional for Mag boring.

Or a lathe and a boring bar.

I will get the brake hone of the right size ( what is the size for 26550 lion battery).

You want one that can hone out to an inch (25.4mm) or a little over. And a long enough arbor so you can bore out the 130-140mm length you need. I thought they were 25650 rather than 26550 but my memory may be at fault

I think the 1.125" one should be fine - the 4" one would probably be far too large to bore a Mag tube.

Depending on whether the cells are 25 or 26mm in diameter you may not even need it. The thing is 8" (200mm) long so should be fine for a 2C.

If you have an old C mag (One that doesn't have a C at the start of the serial number, it may not need boring at all.

I agree on the advice Don has given, and can confirm the older 2C's don't need to be bored.

Another trick you can try if you don't want to buy a brake hone is to chuck up a long screwdriver in a drill (pointy end in), and wrap coarse grit sandpaper around the handle and run it up and down the tube. I've used this method before and it worked well for me.

Will the hone remove enough material to allow a 26650 battery to slide into a C-cell maglite tube?

I thought the hone was meant to smooth out the surface but not meant to remove any significant amount of material.

In order for a 26650 battery to slide into a C-cell maglite tube, about 1mm of material needs to be
removed from the inner surface of the tube. This will open up the ID of the tube by 2mm.
