Please help with tints.

Get 1C

1B and 1A are too blueish and wash out the colors, The tint I like best is 2B

Ok, that’s what I wanted. I just don’t want the purple tints you sometimes get.

Marc.

The XML’s are U3’s 1A,B and C tint, but they also have a T6 3C which maybe nicer again. Not sure which to go for really.

Marc.

If you want brighter and not too blue go with U3 1C tint, it’s kind of vanilla white and is what ThruNite Uses on it’s TN-31 light.

3C is kind of 8am sunlight on a clear summer sky, a bit yellowish

Check out this thread about tints

That’s a good thread. but in nekdo’s pictures the 1C looks very blue.

Marc.

It’s not like that, at least not the ones from illumination supply.

OK, I get you. U3 it is then!

Marc.

I would personally pick a 4c tint, I find it the most pleasant in use, ok, on paper you sacrifice some lumens but your building a p60, not a laser beam thrower, its more for closer range work where a nice tint is most appreciated.

Even building a thrower, I’d probably go xm-l2 t6 3c over a cooler tint tbh.

The problem is Gords, I am looking at Fasttech because they have the best prices. So if I look for the tint you are talking about, it may cost a lot more.

This LED will be replacing another LED that is a little too purple and will be a flood/ medium distance. I do like the idea of a U3, I have to say!

Well spotted!

The problem is when ever I see beam shots of warmer colours, they always look a little orange to me. I may get one of each.

Marc.

grab one of each, you can check a 4c tint out before we build, if you dont like it I’ll buy it off you.

Tint is kind of a personal preference, I have tried 0A, 1B, 1A, 1C, 2B, 1D and 3C and I find the 1C and 2B more pleasing to my eyes, try and experiment what looks best for your eyes.

I’ve got a u3 1c in my m10 thinking about it so you can check them both out….

What do you think of it Gords?

Marc.

Thanks for your input Alex, and everyone else, very helpful. It’s what makes this place so good!

Marc.

it served its purpose, I was chasing the lumen, I tend to go to other lights for more frequent use to be honest, I built my m10 and a nw xp-g 4c in the same week, that really spoiled the m10 for me as I much preferred the “much lower output but more pleasing tint” it really underlined it for me, high output is fun, but I do like to use my lights, rather than them sitting on the shelf, so now almost all of my builds focus around a nw emitter.

I am trying different tints, I have a very very white tint xm-l in my work c8, I’d have to look up the bin, but its not off putting. That said I much prefer the more creamy nw tints myself. As I say you could always pop across one night and try a few different ones indoors and out before you buy if you wished, then you’d know what you prefer before you buy, I do have a nw xm-l2 driven by the same driver as the u3 1c in the same size reflector, might give you a good back to back comparison.

I no longer like cool whites at all. They are just too blue for me and wash out any colors.

I started with neutrals with a 3c and thought that was nice but even now it looks a little green. I recently ordered some neutral XPG-2s but in 3d hoping it will be less green.

I’ve also ordered some 4500k and 4000k XML-2 from mouser and hope those are less “cool”. Don’t know the exact tints though.

In the end, the nichia is one of the best LEDs in terms of colors because it is high CRI. Also it is around the 4000k-4500k range I believe with a rosier (not green) tint. It just isn’t as bright in terms of lumens/watt.

May well do that, i’ll have to sort out a time. Got a new baby right now and my eldest has Chickenpox so won’t be visiting until I know it’s cleared. Don’t want to be giving you clan the Pox!
