BLF Edition ThruNite Saber 1A Group Buy - $19.99

I hear ya JM. I hope Thrunite is listening. Could be end of road for me and Thrunite. :~

Mine will be here in couple hours.

I was under the impression that the xpg2 was a clean neutral white and noticeably brighter than xpg.

ran home on lunch found my 2 sabers in the mailbox. i unscrewed the threads (felt like they were about as smooth as sand paper) and put a battery in the first one and nothing. can’t even get it to turn on. I put a battery in my second and it wouldn’t turn on either. pissed, I smacked the light on my hand and it finally lit up. I put an eneloop in it (which barely fit) and its shorting out and flickering.

what happened?? and I don’t know any lights I can compare the tint to besides the fenix e01 if that says anything. except the saber’s beam is a lot more ringy than my e01s have ever been :~ LEDs are both off center in mine (which wouldn’t bother me so much if they would actually light up!). so glad I bought two of these…my group buy archer comes tomorrow I hope it’s not going to be like this…these were my first and last ever purchases from thrunite. I hope they will at least fix or replace these lights

lol i didn’t expect much in the first place besides them lighting up. that would have been nice. i don’t know what to do with these…the pill/drivers are all the way tightened in the head. i tried tightening the contact spring in the end with no luck (although i’m not sure how that would help…it appears to be making contact regardless?). I guess my next step is to email thrunite. i’m going to try cleaning up and properly lubing the threads and hopefully that will fix something

This is not sounding good. I hope Thrunite are willing to sort out these issues else there might be quite a number of PayPal claims.

I guess I’m a lucky person. I’ve been playing all day long with mine and works great.
So sorry for those who have problems. I have a t10 and this Sarber 1A and both seem great flashlights.
(are good flashlights in a mid range 15-20 $, not more expensive)

Isn’t the step-down from turbo on the D series supposed to be around 20%? That’s certainly what it looks like to me……

I’m surprised at the small but noticeable differences in build quality between this BLF Saber and my older (2012) T10. Everything on the older light just seems to fit a little better. I wonder if they are from the same factory? And why in the name of God didn’t they make the tailstanding platform a little better?! (Well, I knew they hadn’t, but still…. )

Interesting comparison.

My BLF Saber works fine. I can’t See anything wrong with it.

Well, I guess I’m lucky with the BLF Saber. Worked perfectly out of the box. LED centered perfectly also.

Compared to my T10, the threads on the BLF version are rougher but acceptable.
Also, xpg2 tint is a tad warmer (pinker) than the xpg T10 and as a result the colors pop with the xpg2

Othere than that, no difference really between the two to warrant one besting the other. However, I do prefer the slightly warmer tint of the Saber.

Oh, there is no whine in firefly mode on the BLF Saber….there Is on the T10…never knew the whine existed til I read about it in this thread. And you have to stick it in your ear to even hear it…

LOL….look at Johnny Mac’s Avatar…he does it all the time…

ok so after playing around with these for a while they are working fine. I had to clean all of the threads out, lube it up, and play around with the spring a bit to make sure it was solid and they seem to be working fine now. as long as these work I am completely happy. my main complaint is the off-center led’s on both of mine, but this doesn’t make a huge difference either way. as long as they continue to work i will be happy with them. I think they were just rushed and threw them together in the factory…hopefully they will read some reviews/complaints and take the extra few minutes to clean up their products next time before sending them out.

i have an eagletac d25c xm-l u2, so it can’t be directly compared, but the d25c isn’t much brighter than my sabers. i also have 2 foursevens mini ml xp-g2’s, and they are pretty close in brightness. the foursevens have a tighter hotspot are a bit brighter, but they are also using cr123’s instead of eneloops so that isn’t a big surprise. i will say that what i used to think were nasty blue tints on my foursevens look completely nw now when put next to my sabers. (to be fair, the foursevens and eagletac lights are over double the price of the tn saber as well…so even the fact that they’re close is pretty impressive)

overall, for what it is and what i paid i am pretty happy. i was pissed when i first opened up 2 broken lights, but after a little tlc they turned out decent.

I’ll be checking the beams tonight of the xpg2 vs xpg when it gets dark.
I saw a comparo of the beam here a while back…in that comparo the xpg2 did best the xpg.

Waiting for darkness……

Before Step-down with full eneloop, for my eyes a little brighter D25A XP-G2 (the difference luxmeter 270 lux at 1 meter). With eneloop emptier (use half), the difference increases to my eyes (for luxmeter the difference is 375 Lux). The D25A is brighter (also costs twice) 8)

0:) I agree with you, but others also been disappointed to me, lie about runtimes, is lying on lux … even some people say that man has landed on the moon ……

Is the comparison made with a NiMH instead of the rated alkaline? If so, you should know better than to conflate the two, whatever the outcome would be with the correct cell type.

Just sayin’. I don’t currently own either Thrunite or Eagletac, so I don’t have a bias here.

My ET D25A XPG2 R5 rated at ~130 ANSI lumens on “turbo” is noticeably brighter than the BLF T10 on “high”, and even a bit brighter after it drops 20%. All on NiMH 2000mAh eneloops. Later tonight I can compare them on two AA alkies.

Alright. I just loaded my D25A and the BLF T10 with brand new Duracell alkalines and for the first three minutes, the D25A is noticeably brighter. After step-down they are about the same. There is no doubt in my mind that Thrunite’s output numbers are heavily inflated.

That’s very generous for Thrunite. Cute light though. :8)

In my sample, the xpg2 Saber is definitely visualy brighter than the xpg t-10. In addition, the tint is warmer and makes a lot of difference in what you see. The t-10 appears greenish compared to the warmer Saber.

I definitely prefer the Saber.

My first foray into modern lights was the ThruNite T10 and everything I have bought since gets compared to it.

I just received my Saber 1A today and my initial reaction is similar to others.

First of all the body is, as expected, the same as the T10. Heck, mine says ThruNite T10 on one side and Saber 1A on the other. This compared to my original T10 which says TruNite T10 on one side and a picture of a battery on the other.

The head is, as expected, interchangable between the bodies. The Archer 1A feels, as reported, like sandpaper when you first open it to put in the battery. I need to buy some grease to fix it :frowning:

Light output with enloops is a little brighter than the original T10 on both high and medium according to my untrained eye when I point them both at indoor wall which is about what you would from a light rated 1.5x brighter on a log scale.

Both get warmer than I want to hold after 5 minutes on high.

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy with the light other than having to clean it and replace the grease. It is well worth the 20 dollars I paid for it. Thank you ThruNite for the group buy.
