"dad it's just a light"

In fairness they are just lights (am I allowed to say that here?) not really worth abandoning family members in arid climates over :stuck_out_tongue:

You best hush there buddy…Thats grounds for ban hammering hehe

I think it’s funny when people think they are “just flashlights” but they shall not get the last laugh. You can see shoes/clothes/jewelery(women  ) in the dark, UNLESS YOU HAVE MY MAJORLY FANTASTICALLY AWESOME LUMEN PRODUCING PIECE OF LOVELY TECHNOLOGY, or flashlight to be blunt….

no kidding!

WOW! Think about what is important in life. In the overall scheme of things flashlights are very low in importance. Sure they are necessary at times and in certain circumstances, but unless you are a caver, or climbing Everest or something similar you seldom really need a flashlight.
A flashlight won’t look after you in your old age, but a son will (I hope.) I would also hope no one loves a flashlight as he loves his family.

Get life’s priorities in order.

They are just lights. Very good ones.

be more patient

Well to be honest I have type 1diabetes that contributed to gangrene and qe actually live in the middle of the desert we are 20 miles from closest street lights to be fair he’ s a good kid works part time and goes to school fulltime and doesn’t have my addictive habits and I have apologized to him

Don’t all of us say and do things we wish we had not? I sure have, and more than once or 1000. You have apologized to him, and I am sure he accepts it. Go on with life and your relationship.
I live in southern NM and understand the fact that everything in the desert bites or sticks. I once sat down when hunting in the shade where a cholla had dropped some tubercles. It did not take me long to learn that it was not a pleasant place to sit. Never again will I sit close to a cholla. :open_mouth:

Have a good day.
Jerry

Man cholla (jumping cactus) really dig in! I bmp lived in Animas for 3 years liked but desolate

Nowadays a flashlight is very important thing for everyone (I think so), but our family members are the most important in our life. Don’t worry…be happy

+1…

Next time your boy gets excited about his new iPad, Xbox, computer, car part, or whatever he enjoys, tell him “hey man, it’s JUST a _”

Sometimes I feel like we should pass out flyers for this forum and our favorite vendors at outdoor stores and such. Most people have no clue what they are missing and how much they are overpaying for shit lights.

Wow. This thread wasn’t at all what I expected. I thought someone’s son was in trouble for owning a “suspicious” flashlight or using it inproperly.

I think an apology was the right thing to do. Kids are usually pretty forgiving. Life moves on…

Apologizing was of course the right thing to do, but I’d also add a good explanation for why I was acting that way in the first place so that he could understand where I was coming from. Having been in dire straits due to a light failure, it’s much easier to understand why so much emphasis is placed on the flashlight.

Yeah, I wear one around my neck, have a spare battery on my keychain as well as 2 more lights hanging there. Don’t like fumbling around in the dark. Where there be rattlesnakes and scorpions and brown recluse spiders.

My 5 year old has 2 lights of his own, including a Sipik clone won here on an O-L giveaway. That one is now sporting a 14500 protected cell for maximum brightness. I got a new Solarforce L2P in the mail yesterday. Took it out of the package and Daniel was like “That light is going to make my lights jealous! They’re going to kick it’s tail for looking so beautiful!” I think he’s a flashaholic, wouldn’t you say? lol

I meant to reply to the thread when it came out, but kept avoiding a response as it hits so close too home. Not the part about your response to your son’s statement. That is completely understandable. We all do things like that and it takes courage to ask someone for forgiveness afterwords. You did the right thing.

The part that I hit me (from the perspective of my life) was why your son made the statement in the first place. I, of course, don’t know why. Nor, do I want to pry. If you are like me, you struggle with balancing your attention for you hobby with your attention to your love ones. It may be that your son was just trying to say, “Dad, I love you and want more of your attention”.

Thank you for this thread. It made me realize what I already knew but avoided. I need to shift the balance a little bit more to the loved ones. Even just a little bit can make a big difference.

….orrrrr………. he was just being a smartass 19YO busting his pops chops, in good fun…

Nice to see this thread got people thinking though. That is never a bad thing.

My son the one who said its just a light tonight just asked me if he could have one of my C8LU3’s because he was tired of walking out in the dark in our property early in the morning on way to work, I jokingly replied why it’s just a light and we both had a good laugh! But it sounds like your son is well on his way to lots of good harmless fun and Impressing his friends with his light sabers co congratulations!

 It’s a good idea.

+1, never mind, he just not quite understand you passion on the flashlight, but i think someday he will know that, maybe when he has his baby.
