New Build/Mod. Can A Humble Defiant 3C Trounce The Mighty TN31?

I may have to weigh it again. It maybe closer to 20 pounds not. . As far as the factory look goes there are a couple of members here who have taught the rest off us to do trick photography. It makes nearly anything look good to the right eyes.

that’s some stunning machining work, really really beautiful. I’d be hard pressed to tell that from a professional’s work! Now all you need to do is get yourself set up for annodising  If you need any tips, there’s an Aussie called brad72 on mtbr.com who does a lot of machining and annodising, I’m sure he’d be happy to help.

One word of caution about using sodium hydroxide to remove annodising - do it outside or somewhere very well ventilated. I don’t know what it gives off, but the fumes are pretty unpleasant. Rinse with lots of water before handling too. It’s no coincidence that swallowing drain cleaner is disturbingly popular as a method of committing suicide (shudder).

Danged Nice Machining MRsDNF!! You are a master..... knurler...(is that a word?) Well, whatever...this is beautiful work!! You make me want to build a big light now!! Post us another image when you get the black stripped off... that will be awesome!

NICE NICE NICE!!!! Dan.

VERY impressive sir!

Truly a “build”, not a “mod”.

So you are not very creative…???!!! (I know you were referring to creating a lanyard, but even so) Give yourself a hand on that build, its awesome!

Thanks guys. For the ano stripper White King has the right main ingredient. Has anyone tried this as there is some in the laundry when I went sneaking around?

I must be coming down with something, anyone here know the feeling, when you look at someone else’s home made beaut of a copper pill and stare, drooling? Something about that shiny red metal and threads, makes me break out in a sweat. I WANT a copper pill like that for my HD2010, badly!

Spectacular workmanship ! what a fantastic light, well done indeed.

Has anyone removed the reflector from the alloy housing. If so, how?

Not exactly a Defiant "C" any longer but a brilliant job none the less!! Lord, I envy your skills and your machinery!

Thanks Johnnymac. I’ve just been fooling around with it outside again and it still blows me away. I’ve got a polished bezel thanks to White King. I’m just a bit to scared to use to much force on the reflector to remove it from its housing in case I trash it.

It is a fairly tight friction fit. I removed the bezel and lens, then tapped the head on a soft pine board until the reflector popped out.

Thanks ChicagoX. Worked perfectly.

I’ve added a picture in the first post showing the polished bezel and part of the reflector housing along with slightly reprofiled cooling fins.

The contrast now with the bezel and lower housing having the black head between them is very nice. That slight taper goes a long way! Like it, a lot! Excellent job, now that you’ve got all that practice in you can make me a copper pill for my HD2010….:stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve added a picture with the stock light with the modded light to the first post.

Nice Mods to the Defiants ! :) now if i can only get my current Defiant mod completed. ( my icon pic)

x2!

I’m impressed.

Thanks guys. l may be biased but it really rocks.

Want!
