One for Match :-)

what do you say Match do you think you can make something from it !!!! :-) :-)

Pity it doesn't give useful information like how big the thing is.

A 50W bulb which probably wants 12-14V - let's call it 12V and 4.2A.

9-10 NiMh, could do that in a 3D with some sticks and a lot of tape - but you have to make the ballast and bulb fit which would be hard. If it is derived from a car unit, which is likely, it'll be happier at 14V so 10 NiMh.

Think you'd be looking at a lantern mod to make it all fit. Or strapping a car battery to your belt.

And a replacement switch - current production (Old ones were good for 12-13A, current ones die at 4-5A) Mag switches are just not going to handle 50W - some sort of relay or FET switch is called for. QTC might make sense here - don't know how the ballasts work, but they might like a "soft start" It is just possible that stuffing a pill inside a stock Mag switch will solve the problem.

This is a integrated hid bulb and ballast made for ebay tube hids. HIDS pull a couple extra amps at start up and as they warm up to max brightness the amps stay steady . This one is a 12v. Usually hid ballast have at least 80% efficiency. These have 3 rings on the bottom of the ballast . one positive one negative and i think one to switch modes.

Wow...how did I miss this post? That's quite the interesting "drop-in" you've found! I agree that they should have listed dimensions. It may be possible to fit into a Mag...then there's the reflector to figure out, and of course how to power it.

One of these days I'll try out an HID light, but for now there's enough to keep me going with good 'ol LEDs :)

Thanks for the link, Charles!

No problem Match although i started to get worried when you didn't reply :-)

No worries... I've just been working crazy hours this past week, and haven't been on the forums much. That's life for you
