X2000 2 AA mod UV 365 nm 3,75 W

More details in the folowing thread ;

I was able to push this emitter at 3,75 W using a stock driver from a C78 with a sense resistor of 108 miliOhm ...820 ma

At first was very disappointing because do not work at all. A grey light which don't show the security bands of the bills...

Later I realize that the problem is the plastic lens which block all this wavelength thing that not happen with the 400 nm

Below a pic in candle mode, no lens..

Tried some acrilic lens and the same thing , block all...

Below a pic from a 400 nm one

Very nice!

Does it really use all that additional power to illuminate farther or is it just heating better?

I wonder if the plastic lenses blocking the UV is a result of the material used or do they have some kind of coating?

Illuminate farther really. If this emitter wasn't a 3W one it would be die by now because was pushed near or beyond 5W quite a time, at least three minutes or more without any sign of overdrived...

The three die emitters , one 18650, surely is underdrived. The problem here is no standard white led's driver work because the high Vf.

The market for this kind is small to design and mass produce a dedicate driver therefore they put regular white led driver with the known low output. The original buck which led 200 ma with two 14500 give 1.2A with an XR-E. You can not drive this with one li-ion at least you design a sophisticated one.

The heat was not an issue because luckily I found a pure copper coin which fit tightly and make not very difficult to ad some mass to the pill.

I don't know but all plastic lens block all , even the stock mini maglite has which not appear as coated.

Regular polycarbonate eyeglasses block it also, actual glass one's not.

The eyeglasses , the plastic, block the wavelength when put over the emitter however I can see the marks using it.

This matter must be one of the reason why is so difficult to produce this emitter and aren't cheap as others wavelength
