Illuminate farther really. If this emitter wasn't a 3W one it would be die by now because was pushed near or beyond 5W quite a time, at least three minutes or more without any sign of overdrived...
The three die emitters , one 18650, surely is underdrived. The problem here is no standard white led's driver work because the high Vf.
The market for this kind is small to design and mass produce a dedicate driver therefore they put regular white led driver with the known low output. The original buck which led 200 ma with two 14500 give 1.2A with an XR-E. You can not drive this with one li-ion at least you design a sophisticated one.
The heat was not an issue because luckily I found a pure copper coin which fit tightly and make not very difficult to ad some mass to the pill.
