These are all rated 24V bulbs Osram 64638 - 100w
Osram 64640 - 150w
Osram 64642 - 150w
Osram 64655 - 250w Osram 64656 - 250w
Osram 64657 - 250w
I don’t have a 64458 for comparison, and cant find the Destructive test for the 638, but here is a comparison to the other bulbs that I have for this light.
L 64638 and 64656 R
The larger bulb really needs to be seated low in the reflector, so the head needs to be focused out quite a bit more than for the 638.
No, but that would be awesome. I’d be able to run a nice range of bulbs to their fullest and with constant brightness. Lots of benefits to regulation for sure.
For me, one of the more important benefits is the money saved in replacement bulbs when you think the pack has settled enough already but it hasn’t.
I use them in a 13 cell 2D ish sized Mag and a 19 cell 3D ish sized Mag.
Are you using Fibrefrax ceramic insulation behind the reflector?
Not sure what is insulating back there. I did not put this one together, sorry.
I would like to get some more high current cells. Right now I’m using MNKE 26650 IMR. It looks like the KK IRCs can handle a lot of current but are they safe with this high of current not being IMR cells. Are there any good IMR26650s?
edc plus had 3700 mah mnke imr for a while but they are not stocked anymore
i wouldnt use king kong in high current situations… even though they can take it someone did a battery test and it showed a significant loss of capacity at high discharge rates (i think it was 5 or 8 amps)
I think the one canadian company, emoli, I believe made high current cells and they are available on ebay. But no doubt they are pack pulls from power tools. I think that was what was in my 28V Milwaukee tools in the V28 packs. They both failed in a couple years and I went to the Milwaukee warranty location to get them replaced. They charged me 30.00 a pack to replace them with the M28 packs. The new packs use samsung cells IIRC. Now that I think about it they probably use 18650s. It might be a possibility use the Samsung INR18650-20R with appropriate spacer.
I think as the 26650 becomes more of an accepted size, some of the tech from the 18650 IMRs will come this way. I’m a little hesitant to measure the current draw on these, because I know it’s pretty high on a 250w bulb, but I might get out my analog meter with the hook to see. Any guess?
What switch did the builder you purchased this from install in place of the old stock mag clickie switch?
You are dealing with some serious amperage there.
It’s a rocker switch. I know some people have picked these up at RadioShack or auto parts stores. Here is the link to another build just like it. link*
You guys scare me. They should let you into the Superbowl for free with that thing lawallac. If there is another power outage, you should be able to light up the field temporarily. Actually, I think its like your patriotic duty or something to be on stand by now. With great power comes . . .
I keep this as proof that incans are relevant to flashlight conversation. But it’s hardly a useful light with run time limited to less than 5 min before burning your hands or ruining good imrs. I have a big party in 2 weeks from today and this will be Prometheus to the bon fire.
