Nitecore TM11 TM15 TM26 tripod mount

forget the built-in niteye nitecore tiny monster tripod mount, use parts from rohrklemmen, rohrschellen, stativschellen, objektivschellen instead. for use as bike light, the rohr stuffz is appropriate. for indoor use, the stativschellen stuffz is good. this op demos my solution with stativschelle.

pic 1 shows the retail bag with 1pc x (Gelenkrohrschelle decomposed to 2 halves and its rubberized insert + Stockschraube + Kunststoffdübel) + 1pc x stativschelle. The latter looks metallic with black anodization but in reality it's a supercheap China knockoff made out of ABS, a high quality plastic material. The advantage of ABS is: super light and very strong material. For our purposes, i.e. using it on a plasticky gorillapod, the ABS version is more suitable than the original canon metallic heavy super expensive mount ring.

Since the rubber insert has a non-primitive 3D geometrical shape and is made out of rubber it is difficult to determine its length (unreeled circumference) or its thickness (serrated cross-section). For sake of rough reference here are numbers anyway: length ~206.5mm, thickness ~2.70mm.

pic 2a/2b demonstrates that the original insert length of 206.5mm of "unreeled circumference" has the perfect length to go with the mount ring. the rubber insert isn't too long nor too short. just perfect.

btw the purpose of the above table and numbers is for you to a find similar gelenkrohrschellen product from your local hardware store. And if your torch aint a 60mm Nitecore tini monster, no problem. The suggested tripod mount solution should work for all similar sized flashlights with a 60mm diameter to hold on to.

pic 3a/3b shows that the profile, i.e. the cross-sectional shape of the rubber insert is saw-toothed, serrated. these serrations are rather welcome because they provide extra grip in conjunction with the TM15's cooling fins.

pic 5a/5b shows that the mount ring alone would be too wide in its inner diameter and we do need a spacer. the rubber insert is a great spacer for its grip, compressibility and anti-scratch property. no matter if you take the 60.00mm of the bezel (pic 5b) as reference or the real 61.40mm of the cooling fins (pic 6, pic 7). the rubber insert, because of its serrations and rubber material adapts to the little variations in diameter. note that the gelenkrohrschellen product SKU is rated for pipes with 62—64mm outer diameter according to the label sticker (pic 1).

pics 6, yep yep. looks literally "awesome" doesnt it. lol. note that rubber insert could in theory host ring widths between 15.0 — 20.0mm, well the ring should be as thin as possible, the proper metallic ring is 2.6mm thin. here we have a 6.0mm thick ring ouch but the narrow width of the mount ring, 17.8mm, saves the day after all. just look at the beautifully installed rubber insert. it really appears as if the insert was specifically produced to match this canon replica ring!! Beautiful and perfect. Go buy it. Now. haha.

Fantastic .. on pics 6, the torch looks shorter than on pics 7. That's the hilarious effect of taking pics of 3D objects on a flat bed pc scanner lol. Depending on the orientation of the object, the scanned object looks elongated or compressed like a fish.

poor picture quality? yeah i know, sorry. i hit the "Save All"-button when the preset was set to GIF which i did not realize. so the software condensed all original HQ info down into GIF files, the full info got lost. i wasnt able to revert back to full info images and save as, e.g. PNG. damn it. ironically, if i convert the above GIF's to PNG format, the *.PNG-files are smaller lol wtf. i must admit i was too lazy to redo the images from scratch. higher quality pictures would have been nicer .. but hey you're getting what this is about. it says don't use the integrated §$%&! tripod mount point but use a stativschelle instead. why? because it is stronger, securer, safer, and you can freely adjust the balance depending on the cell count in the darn battery compartment. listen the very last pic (#7iv) shows, since these are all pics from a flat bed PC scanner, how i am managing to balance the entire torch loaded with 4x 18650's on the head of da screw. the screw was taken, for this instructional pic, from the mounting shoe of the gorillapod replica. point is the gorillapod replica costs 6.60$, the original and smaller yikes magnetic gorillapod works fine with a loaded TM15 too but costs much more, the tripod mount ring costs 6$, and the bag of Gelenkrohrschellen not more than 3.95€. they are a puuurfekt fit, no mod required yay. fair enough the weak point be again the threading point. however this time you can reduce the torque and momentum in the threads to almost zero by attaching the mount ring nearer to the bezel. it really depends on the inclination angle of the torch. for horizontal deployment, the pics given in this op show the perfect point of contact between mount ring and fully loaded torch, that is the ring exactly covering the TM15's integrated tripod mount point.

as long as you buy the exact same products shill shill, all parts form a perfect fit with each other:

  • the rubberized insert vs. mount ring = perfect fit in every bl**dy respect, i.e. the insert isn't too long or too short, neither is it too thick or too thin as spacer between ring and torch, nor is it to wide or broad or narrow to embrace/cover the ring
  • the torch vs. the mount ring w/ rubberized insert = perfect fit. once the ring is closed, there is no play left and the torch sits very firmly in the ring by help of the rubberized insert now under mellow compression.

in theory one could ride a bike with this assembly. at least this, the torch would never fall out of the ring. however, a bike ride would be too rough on the little screw of the mounting shoe. for bikes rides, leave out the tripod mount ring altogether —they are for photographers or indoor use!— and find your solution exclusively composed of rohrschellen. but hey let's be honest i do not recommend riding a bike with any tiny monster, not even with a commercial holder. if you need or want a bike light, then get yourself something vernunftiges, magicshine, etc.

oh cr*p and what's that bombastic thing on the head of da torch? well haha, that's the Thrunite flip-up diffusser(sic) or fliter(sic). that thing serves as anti-scratch & drop impact protection of the entire anodized head area. it is a perfect fit on the TM15 as long as one does not engage the fastener. instead of removing the latch system entirely and possibly breaking parts of it, i for my part removed a mere 1 pin off the diffusser assembly, locked the fastener with double-sided adhesive tape in its fastened now harmless position, and that's it. admit it you did not even notice on the above pix that something was off with the diffusser did ya? hint, check again pic 6i hehe. see the missing pin? yep. you cant see it. because it is not there. gone. deleted. kreisl ninja move.

if you know the right Engrish word for gelenkrohrschelle (pic 1), please share. i doht know it. anyway i found my idea with rohrschelle rubber insert and canon tripod mount ring very inspiring yes self-praise s*cks haha so i posted it here for others to copy cat and ...

BUT, I do have a Fasttech imitation Gorrillapod tripod on the way - what’s your opinion on that Kreisl?

The gorillapod 10inch replica which i got from FT, physically, feels good, well-made and not cheap, weight 164g. Came in a bubble wrap bag with SKU sticker.

The original 10.1inch gorillapod, weight 191g, is rated for 1000g stuffz. I have ordered Preon Penlight in brown and just finished a mango for breakfast. The FT product holds the 822g reasonably well as long as it is deployed literally as tripod stand; the TM15 could be pointed into any direction sustained by the swivelarity of the mounting head and the stand would hold its position. Unfortunately, the FT product in conjunction with this TM15 assembly cannot be used as real gorillapod replacement, that is twining the legs around bars and handles and then assuming that the product holds the TM15 assembly securely in place. The joints are too weak, too softy for such challenging tasks which the original gorillapod is easily up to. Would i buy the FT product again? Yes i would. Point is, if you need a tripod stand 10inch in size, you wont find something cheaper. And for occasional tripod setups it really wolks and provides a secure stand. Personally i would rate it for 750g and no twining, or alternatively for 500g with twining. Folks with serious and frequent uses of gorillapod for 500-1000g stuffz, with or without twining does not matter, should not count on the FT product.

I do own the original magnetic 6inch gorillapod, and there is a biig difference in strength in the joints, compares to the haptics between Fenix and XXXFire no offense. The higher quality of the original is so evident. Nonetheless kreisl rates the replica for 500g with twining and 750g without twining. This op's 822g are really at the limit of acceptability and functionality but who said that one has to operate da tiny monster wiv 4x18650's all the time? Take out 2 cells, and the torch assembly is at 726g tarah. Much better.

So what's the weight of your fully loaded lights? ;)

Thanks for that, seems that it will do fine for what I want - simply to hold my Canon 400D on a table. My real tripods (Manafont) get in the way a little, so the FT one should do the job.
