Vintage German WW2 Daimon- Ze Germans did not have enough light...

Thanks jacktheclipper.

Nice light you got there djozz!

Here are my three WWII period lights… I bought 4, but I have a friend who collects, so he bought one from me. I bought the lights off from ebay.
There are two french Wonder lights in the middle. They have been in the family. I believe they are from somewhere around the 70-80s. Also have at least one more with a longer straight tube barrel, but I dont find them to be that cool as the “boxy” lights…
The blue one in the front is probably a cheap no-name light from the early 90s or something… Its basically worthless…

Here are some snapshots inside the facility I mentioned. Not much need for a flashlight inside there, where there are guided tours… but some might enjoy watching some pics…

Green LEDs= Mine field!

The Germans knew how to build tunnels.

Lots of various goodies in this room:

Not so much inside this room: (lit up by a Led lenser X21R btw)

Now this is a “flashlight”… I think…

That is a mine!

Engines

Scale model. Lots of space below the huge cannon.

+1! Now I need to look for something like this.

That's some cool gear. Don't be shy posting more pictures.. Tongue Out

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing.

Great looking light.
Your work is Outstanding

Love the History Pic’s and the Light. Cheers

Very beautiful light and great work!
I bought an Swiss flashlight just a few weeks ago because I love this formfactor (something like this picture)
But I have to admit, the Daimon is way more beautiful.

fantastic build - I love old objects being repurposed like this, so much more interesting than something you can just buy out of a shop. Very interesting history tour too

I don’t know about reflectors, but a Ledil Iris should fit. You’ll have to mount the star to the back of the housing or a small pedestal though, it’s pretty deep.

Love the look of it. great job!

what a brilliant thread, thanks for sharing, I really like the idea of updating old vintage lghts too, its definitely something on the “to do list”.

I am wondering about putting my spare mtg-2 in my classic bi alladin lantern as its currently non functional at the moment.

I don’t build… but this thread has me thinking………

Nice mod,thanks! Forgotten/neglected form factor.

I had one of those exact lights when I lived in West Germany, from 65 –82, another was extremely similar DIAMON make and had a opaque centre bulls eye in the lens, this was ace as it gave a real hot spot.
I do remember the guy who gave them to me was mates grandad(german) and I’m sure he said they were from the 60’s ?, long time ago so maybe not remembering right, can’t remember what happened to them either.
Nice to see a modern revamp but looking period!!

Philips dyno light

Very interesting thread, and nice mod!

Thanks everybody for the nice words!
Hope someone was inspired. I find many vintage lights to be quite cool! Like that jflak1 shows…

WARNING. DO NOT BOTHER CHECKING LINKS OR ANYTHING IN THIS POST IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE TOPIC.

Thanks… You/he may be right… I dont know… When checking many sites on the internet they all seem to say its WWII. BUT, those are mostly sellers. Many of which seem to be various Ebay sellers from Sofia, Bulgaria. But, they seem to have high ratings though…
One even tries to sell a light for 300$ :Sp Claims WWII like many of the others…
link
Price range for the lights are mostly 30-60$
I have searched on lights from the 60s but did find Daimon light that looked like mine…

So “made in Germany” makes it post WWII?

So this guy is probably wrong then? He claims 1930 for this flashlight

This one does not have the “made in Germany” mark. Its said to be 1930s too…

Here is a guy who sells or have sold many lights… Mostly pre-WWII

On one that have the “made in germany” printed in it he seems to question when its from…

This seller have some flashlights. The ones with filters. (and button on the opposite side) He seems more legit. His WWII flashlights does not say “made in Germany”. But he only have the ones with filters.

I have come across some forums discussing the various lights. But there seems to be so many of the flashlights…

Here are some post WWII Daimon lights. They have a design that does not look like mine.

Here is a HUGE thread about vintage WWII flashlights…
I have not bothered to see through all the 140+ pages! But I will do some searching…

Here is a guy who restores a rusted light that looks JUST LIKE MINE!
Nice thread!
One guy said this about the light:

I want draw any conclusions. Based on some of the links above, and many more lights I have come across it seems that djozz is right about that Daimon lights with the “made in Germany” are post war. At least there is something in it according to several places… :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s spelt Daimon?

This one is interesting, with a hood to shield the light:
