(Last update) Wanna buy BTU Shocker, but...

Come on, I would never post something that I thought was going to be a disservice. I take all bias out the window and look at which light is better over. For me the TK75 is a much better light overall even if the CW BTU is similar in brightness.

Will it really out throw the TK75 "easily"? For me easily is +100 meters. Do you think it is that much better? If so I am going to request some CW emitters from Ric.

Seriously Joe it will. My TK75 throws right about 616 meters. We measured it at 95k cd. My brothers shocker before mods threw about 125k cd. That calculates out to about 707 meters. After Tom got through with it the light is a monster throwing 181k cd or 850 meters .

The BTU vs TK75 we own measured 125k vs 94.5K. Basically 707m vs 614m.

As you can see from rdr and buggy, yes it will throw about 100m more and its not simply because of the emitters but more about the deeper and larger throw-y reflectors. That is the main reason I’m not interested in the TK75. Before I got into the big flashlight game… I always wanted a TK70. I loved its massive head… I never got around to getting it… the BTU came out with the same head and superior performance for nearly half the money ($120) + used 18650! I was sold. I think once I figure out how to get the dry driver in I am going to be frothing at the mouth over this light.

I have played with a shocker and a TK70 at the same time, The shocker (an early one) was impressive in the output but the quality did not match the Fenix. At the time the price was higher than it is now and I then would have said that it would be 75/25% for the Fenix TK75.

But at the price and U2 it is now I would lean 55/45 TK75. At $100 I would go Shocker and if it ever reached that I would buy one BUT.

The thing I find very worrying is the AR coated Lens business, people that had bought them still are either buying, bought or trying to locate a source for an AR lens to retrofit. If Ric’s site was in the UK I believe that Trading Standards would have been down his neck. Not too mention small claims court If I had bought one. Though I believe I have read that AR lenses may actually be attached now. But that does not change that a lot have been sold with just a plain lens. Did anyone ever get a refund over that omission.

I personally would not trust any site that I believe knowingly describes a product that is not what is delivered. Nor would I entrust personal info to them. For that reason I would not entertain a shocker.(Though I would buy one SH).

Therefore the TK75 would get my vote. Though I might also look at that LusteFire 3XU3-X3 at $80odd could be a good bargain

Looks like relic38 helped you out there with the Dry driver install - I haven't seen one, or read about one, so was dificult to answer.

Well, well.. It doesn't. Maybe it doesn't match your needs, but that's all.

For me, the NW was a conscious choice. I use the light for photography / light painting and the NW tint is far more suitable for that.

And for a NW light, this thing really throws! Please keep in mind that the NW version throws about the same than TK75 CW. What other NW light throws even nearly as far?

Some people have tried the DRY driver and said it's not significantly brighter than the BTU driver. I would invest XM-L2s with copper SinkPADs instead.

Exactly, cheers!!

Hi DENGOH, why would you not recommending the BTU Shocker? Yes I am not a modder my soldering skill is bad, but isn’t that the BTU Shocker can already kick some arse in stock form? Somemore I think it takes at least another RM200 more to reach the TK75.

EDIT: I just found one seller in Aliexpress that sells TK75 at only $165 :open_mouth: Anyway I already bought the BTU Shocker, so just let be it…

Congrats on your purchase. I think you will enjoy the BTU. Some are concerned about the weight; I’ve carried mine (with an HD2010) in the other hand for over two miles and Other than some fiddling to activate the light, you almost forget it’s there.
Can anyone figure out how to add a (working) side-clicky to the BTU

Thank you relic! Ya I think I am gonna love this small monster beside being a little bit of worried for its reflector and overall quality as some other members here have pointed out. Hopefully it’s just me thinking too much.

Not sure why he does this… But anytime the topic of BTU comes up. Hate starts getting thrown. I think it’s because he feels the BTU Shocker is inherently evil & people must be warned….LOL

Has been torn down, tore up, squished, put under the fire, down graded, upgraded, re emitterized, boosted & re-lens did… LOL my favorite light of all of them…

not keen on the idea that you can get similar performance without blowing a wad? I’d suggest looking at the forum title, but I think it’d fall on deaf ears… :expressionless:

Well, I have stated my points very clearly in old posts. BTU sucks in stock form if compare directly to TK75 except 3 minutes Turbo. Many modded it including you. If many are happy with it, why many mod it when got it less than 3 months. Fact is fact, don’t mislead people here.

Dude what are you even talking about, you can switch back to turbo after 3 minutes and the light operates fine. I don’t see how it ‘sucks’. Plus it has noticeably better throw than the TK75 and in my opinion a better feel as well (feels like a tank as I said before) where the TK75 although feels nice is a bit more ‘dainty’.

I guess we all have different things we want in a light. If price and more throw is very important than the BTU is the light to buy. If quality, UI, ergonomics, great flood/throw mix than the TK75 is the light to buy.

I would also argue that the TK75 is more robust feeling. I mean weight and strength are different. If I had to drop one from 10 feet I would choose the TK75.

(If someone wants to mod my Shocker into a XM-L2 monster, shoot me a PM. I'm really interested.)

Ok, some might not see old post about BTU. Just a quick one:
1.Output At Turbo : BTU and TK75 have equal output as measured by rdrfronty. So that means BTU throw better, TK75 flood better.
2.Turbo : BTU has 3 minutes Turbo, TK75 has 20 minutes Turbo. Though you can reactivate BTU Turbo, but its UI is really not convenient to do so as you need two hand to do it.
3.AR Lens : TK75 comes with one, none for BTU
4.Battery configuration : TK75 is 4*18650, better runtime and less stressing on batteries on Turbo mode. TK75 can be extended to 16*18650 if you want.
5.Battery carrier : TK75 has good quality and designed battery carrier, BTU looks like college project work.
6.UI : TK75 is side clicky, can operate in one hand. BTU is tail clicky, and heavy, so most will operate with two hands.
7.Warranty : TK75 has 2 years warranty, BTU not so sure.
8.Reflector : TK75 is very shinny like mirror compare to BTU, TK75 is better performance here.
9.Price : BTU was selling $150 vs TK75 $160. Now BTU price is lower, more attractive to modders now.

Dale, don’t simply say I hate BTU. BTU has its problem when compare directly to TK75.

Yes it’s cheaper & out throws it. But this is not a TK75 thread.

Ya, it is not DENGOH hate BTU thread either. Someone asked for advise, I replied. Why the hell you want to say I hate BTU? Did I comment on you?
