Review: Convoy C8 XM-L U2 1B 1x18650 8x7135 Flashlight

Very tempting. The T4 7C Convoys are interesting too.

The max output - 2,800 mA vs 2,100 mA. No sense in getting the 2,100 mA (6 x 7135) version, go with the second one listed.

To select the other mode group, switch to low mode. In about 4 seconds or so the light will blink. Right after the blink, quick press the clicky. Now the light is in the other mode group.

Hi, does anyone have the patience to explain to the noob here whats the difference between the emitters XM-L U2-1B and XM-L T6-3C Tint? Output? Durability?
I really like this little flashlight, it will be my most powerful option (only have Sipik SK68’s and another generic 18650), the large OP reflector is exactly what I need.

Thanks for your time!

U2 1B will be [very] slightly more efficient, but much “cooler” in tint.

T6 3C is NW, probably the most common neutral white XM-L. 3C is actually to the coolish end of neutral white technically.

this might help….

Your explanation was very useful. Chart is a great bonus! Thank you!

no problem.

you can find that chart and similar stuff by running a google (image) search for “ANSI white” or “CREE chromaticity chart” if you need it later.

Great review, relic38

Seems like this is one of the best deals going for the venerable C8. At less than $16 it’s a no-brainer.

Yup, I keep thinking of a way yo build one for less. I can’t find a host nearly this good and come out less that $16 with all the bits in it.
In fact, that reminds me, I need to order two or three more for some friends.

I just received mine and i would order more if I could.

Hi,

I just got one of these today, and I was trying to remove the head, but it just won’t budge. I couldn’t remove the bezel either, that would move too.

Does Convoy glue those parts together or loktite them?

Does anyone know if this is the case, that the head-to-body and the bezel-to-head are loctited? If so, how can I remove them?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim

I don’t think so. Look at Relic’s first post. He got pic of disassembled parts.

I saw those, and I know that he got it apart, but I swear, with the one that I just got yesterday/today, the head won’t budge and neither will the bezel.

I tried to get the head off with some vise grips, but only succeeded in scratching my brand new Convoy C8 :(, and it still wouldn’t come off :(!

I’ve gone ahead and posted a ticket with FT, to try to find out if this is something that whoever manufactures Convoy C8 started doing. Man, this is really frustrating :(!!

Anyway, so any suggestions about how to get this disassembled? I’ve read about putting the light into a ziploc bag and boiling it? Will that work?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

I guess that the guy that they named those 26650 batteries after must be working for Convoy now :)… I was just able to separate the head from the body. Luckily two sides of the tube are flat, so I used a crescent wrench to grab that, and then turned the head while wearing a nitrile glove.

However, I still can’t seem to get the bezel off of the head :(…

You could try using a piece of leather to protect while using vise-grips… though a rubber tube wrench might be better tool for the job.

I sometimes use one of those rubber grip mats used in the kitchen for opening stuck bottles and stuff. Works pretty well, but sound like you need heavier weaponry in this case.

I’ll see what I can figure out.

Also, BTW, FastTech support responded to my ticket, and confirmed that Convoy C8 “indeed comes with sealed bezel” :(!!

Why? Why would they do that?

Mine came apart easily??

I’m glad that’s the case. When did you purchase that?

Edit: Also which one did you get? The one I got was this one:
